2006 mini cooper S R52 BC-1 Replacement/Key Programming

My car was running perfectly and then I went out and it would not start. My brother suggested it might be a module and when I investigated it turns out the BC-1 module was faulty. After buying a used one off ebay, everything came back to life (windows, top, AC blower) except starting.

I realized I had brought in and installed a new (used) R52 BC-1 and my former key would not recognize my 2006 mini cooper s. Is there any way that I can buy a blank new key and program it to work with my new situation? The car will not start so I can't take it to dealership.

Any help would be appreciated.

From my knowledge the BCM talks to the ECU and finally EWS.
- The BCM and ECU need to have matching numbers like your vin#
- The EWS also needs to match the BCM and ECU as they are specifically programmed to each car
- If the BCM and ECU talk and are happy it will give the EWS a green light to start.

Although i am far from an expert on this i have been through this conundrum with a flooded out BCM, which took out my EWS system. I paid to have the EWS bypassed and worked around my BCM issues bypassing other things when needed with random jumper wires. So what i assume your issue is,

- Your new BCM is not coded to talk with your ECU and EWS. This would need to be coded to match your existing ECU and EWS.
This apparently is possible with NCS expert, although i am unsure of that process and yet to find specific information on that.
The easiest would be finding a company capable of programing for you, Precision ECU or RPM motorsports are both capable of that. Personally used RPM to bypass my EWS which involved shipping them my ECU.

Best of luck with your repairs

Thanks for that explanation and you did a solid way of explaining it. Also, thank you for the linked contacts. I will contact both of them today and see what can be done.

Thanks again

You might also try contacting member "adriancl" on this forum. He works via remote contact (via a laptop and OBD II port) and might be able to help with your problem.
