Funny thing discovered installing my Forge Hard Intake
I decided to install my Forge Hard Intake Pipe today.
First a back story:
I always had an issue with high rpm upshifts, whereas it felt like too much boost was being dumped. You know
that burble between shifts so you dont jerk into the next gear (Auto trans). Mine would fall on its face hitting 2nd gear like the Turbo had
to spool up to regain boost.
Dealer would say thats the way it is.
(BURBLE= The wastegate dumping off boost)
Fast forward to today:
I remove the air filter with the MAF intake pipe, then remove the intake center bolt to the engine, and WTF the intake pipe to
the turbo inlet falls over!!! I looked down and the spring clip was never engaged!! The intake pipe was never seated!!!
Was this a Monday car, Dutch drank too much on the weekend?
So, I go on and install the Forge pipe, along with a new turbo inlet seal. (2 hours start to finish)
ROAD TEST!!!
My upshifts are hitting as hard as I believed it should have been form the beginning, and a shorter (yet louder) burble between shifts, and my idle
has smoothed in Sport.
IMPRESSIONS?
I now cant really answer whether this pipe was worth $300, as I have nothing to compare with due to the OEM pipe never fitted
properly!!
FIY car was built 2/2017 in the Netherlands assembly plant.
Yeah, 5 years later!!
Mileage? I only do short hops lately, so its hard to judge, but it runs so smoothly now!!!
And... I lost the grey lock to the Blowby heater connector!!! I might remove the under tray, probably will find all the grey locks Ive dropped!!
Did not remove any bits above, but had to remove the OEM snorkel to get the intake body out. Also the front battery wall kept it from coming out. Removed that too.
You guys are really making me want to get the forge intake pipe, but as you said $300 is a hard sell. Are you guys pairing it with OEM intake + K&N or an aftermarket?

Im only saying I have no comparison due to the OEM not fully seated.
Strange that you had a leaky intake (post MAF) and you weren’t getting a CEL. But glad you’ve fixed it.
FYI the “farts” on upshift are caused by the engine pulling timing for a momentary and immediate reduction in torque, so the gearshift can happen quickly. This is common in several makes/models now, more pronounced in cars with exciting exhausts, and not related to the turbocharger at all (which actually has a recirculating valve and doesn’t “dump boost” at all).

Hi @mruehl, I would agree about the price, but I was lucky because I used some points with my credit card to cover the cost.
However, after receiving the product and seeing Forge's incredible build quality I have to say its well worth the money!
- Also having a smoother idle, better airflow (non-restrictive) to the turbo while maintaining mpg was a benefit in my opinion
My MINI still has the OEM intake and panel filter. I have an aFe performance dry panel filter I have to install but Forge does make an induction kit that looks amazing...

I worded it wrong.
Yes, I agree with the timing part, but the wastegate does not recirculate, it dumps exhaust past the turbo. being unburnt fuel being ignited on its way out.

.
I had rich and lean codes, but attributed it to my JB+
I might have to reinstall the replacement, and see. (Burger sent a new one no questions asked!!)

You're talking about the turbine side, but I was talking about the compressor side. The compressor side uses a recirculating valve to recirculate the intake air, rather than vent it to atmosphere via a traditional blow-off valve or what some may call a dump valve (or, "dumping boost"). [Curiously, BMW/MINI does call this valve a blow-off valve in technical documents, though it functions as I stated and does not vent to atmosphere. Instead, it recirculates the air on the compressor side when the throttle is closed.]

I'm not sure what your experience has been with the 3rd generation cars, but all S and JCW models, with the exception of the GP3, LCI Clubman JCW, and LCI Countryman JCW (the ~300hp engines) do not use a diverter/recirculation/blow-off valve. Boost is solely controlled through the use of the wastegate. The ~300hp JCW engines have an added diverter valve to the intake side of the turbo, but the lower spec S and JCW engines do not have that valve on the intake side.
I also had the NM Engineering intake on my previous F56 and it was loud. I can’t imagine how loud it is with both the intake and the Forge hard pipe installed
Personally I think the Forge hard pipe with an aftermarket panel filter installed sounds great

Same combo here.
Also removed the Magnaflow, and installed a full GP3 exhaust.
Now sounds good, but heads dont turn.
