F55/F56 Sound horn when locking/unlocking possible?
Sound horn when locking/unlocking possible?
Forgive me if this has been covered, but I have looked here and elsewhere on the world of wild webs, and have found nothing. I took my 2018 F56S to the dealer on Monday for some warranty issues (nothing major) and of course they wiped out all of my coding changes I made with BimmerCode. Nothing major, just lighting stuff and one "expert mode" change to add paddle shifters which seems to give me "sport transmission" (2TB?) as the shifts in Sport Plus seem quicker/firmer. Anyway, while changing my stuff back with BimmerCode, I noticed a setting in "regular" mode where I could enable or disable horn sounding when locking doors with the keyfob while engine is idling in Park. It was enabled when I found it. Once I finished my coding, I verified that with the engine idling in Park, I could get out, close the door, and pushing the lock button on the keyfob locked the doors and my car sounded the horn twice. Well, shoot! I have always liked an audible confirmation that I have either locked or unlocked my car, and it got me to thinking....is there a way to enable the horn sound when I lock/unlock my car when using the keyfob? Has anyone found this coding change yet, if it exists? I do not have "comfort access", if that matters. I hope someone out there has found a way to do this! If so, please provide instructions and/or a link. I am pretty comfortable with BimmerCode, at least in regular mode. "Expert" scares me a bit, as it appears to be mostly in German.
Thanks in advance.

Don't know how I missed that. I will give it a try. Thanks!
Edit: Went and looked just now, cannot find that on my CID. Maybe mine doesn't have that capability since it doesn't have the alarm? No "Panic" button on my remotes.

If I recall correctly, you have to have the optional alarm installed to get any sound when you lock or unlock the car (with the engine off). I don't have the alarm option, however, if I try to lock the doors with the engine running, I get the two horn beeps like you did.
I was actually trying the coding for this earlier today on my 2015 f55. I couldn't get it to work. But I had the Rolls Royce sound enabled and it took away all warning sounds. So I'll have to go back out and try again real quick. Was able to use the BMW i sounds and M variant start up. But have the understanding that an actual alarm is needed. Will post back soon.
EDIT:: so the audible sound on locking the doors is a no go without an alarm installed. Tried all variants of vehicle sounds. Mini, bmwi, BMW and Rolls-Royce. In conjunction with all alarm sounds. USA, great Britain and Europe. Not in the codes for us. But the BMW i tones are a nice switch. Also the M variant start up screen. Still want to get the rear lower brake lights. In the expert menu I'm pretty sure.

Coincidentally, I found this post to be humorous and that has little to do with the legitimate inquiry included. I bought a 2018 F56 S in May and am still learning the systems. Last week my wife and I went to the grocery store and after we parked and my wife exited the car I hit the lock button on the key and the horn beeped twice. As we walked away my wife was angry because she/we assumed that my car has an alarm that we'd somehow activated and that her 2020 Countryman has not alarm. About 20 minutes later we returned to the car and when we got in my wife said that it felt like the car was running. So, it turns out that when we parked and I thought I'd shut of the engine, it didn't shut off. We both laughed hysterically. Thanks for your post. Good luck.

This was one feature I really wanted, yup for it to be enabled you need to have the alarm option.
If you code the feature using BimmerCode in a MINI without the alarm you will see the option to turn on/off sound horn when locking/unlocking in the MINI's settings even though it does nothing. What a tease...

oh my f56 I don’t have the option to turn off the horn. It actually never honked until recently when it came out of the shop for a relay replacement. Now it jinks twice when it is idling, and I leave to lock the car. NEVER did that before. AND… the issue I have is it’s loud AF! It is two huge normal loud honks not light ones or little lock signals. It pisses me off. Nobody knows how to turn it off?
You need to have alarm in order for the beep to work. I had an F56 ( the one in my signature ) and it never worked because I had no alarm. I now have an F60 with alarm and it have the option to enable the beep, change the beep tones, volume and even how many times it beeps.
Hope that helps.
