Comfort Access tick

I have mine set to only unlock the driver door when I hit the button to get in the car. I also have it set to lock once I start driving. My question surrounds getting out of the car and locking it. For some reason, when I go to lock it after getting to my destination, it unlocks the passenger door first...then I have to wait a few seconds before hitting the button again to lock all the doors. Does this happen to anyone else? It's rather frustrating actually...

I think it has something to do with you getting out (by opening the door) and unlocking only the driver side. When you close the door and hit the button. You can't expect it to lock the driver side. And accidentally unlock the passenger side since it's still lock from when you were driving. So, the system is design to unlock everything, making sure it all the same position. And locking it together. I found that unlocking all the doors on my way out. And hitting the button once I close it and outside, it lets you lock everything together.

Yeah - that is normal behavior and it's just the weird way they have it programmed. The workaround is you can just hit the unlock button on the inside door handle on your way out so the only thing for the Comfort Access button to do is to lock all the doors. Alternatively, if you ever get into coding the car, you can change the behavior of the locks so no workaround is necessary.

I have been told that 2017 MINIs have altered the CA programming so that the CA button will lock the door by default (as it should be), so I assume at some point, the next time your car goes in for programming it will get the newer software that enables this.

I've been hitting the unlock button while exiting and it of course fixed the problem...would be nice to not have to do that though. Thanks for the advice.

This is how I have been doing it since I bought the car. I think at this point if I stopped I wouldn't know what to do with myself. Although I will say that I usually lock the car with the fob itself but unlock it with the door button. I know, I am weird about it.

I never use the fob. It's usually deep in some crevasse of my purse. 🙄 My only annoyance is that when I want to enter the car, I can't unlock the passenger side when I hit the button on my drivers side. I always have to tell my passenger to wait while I open my door and hit the unlock button. It's annoying.

I don't know about the 3rd Gen cars, because I don't have Comfort Access in my '15, but my R56 could be set to unlock both doors with the little door lock button.

When I went in for my second date, I asked about that. The guy at the dealer told me that it wasn't programmed to do that and that it was some sort of safety thing. I guess they're paranoid some stranger would jump in the passenger seat 🙄

I did notice that if I use the comfort access button on the passenger side it will unlock both doors. I occasionally do that if I have a passenger and I'm approaching the car from the right side.

I can set it to unlock both doors when entering, but it still does the same thing if no one opens the passenger door.
