"Affordable" performance brake upgrade...

I really like this new $899 Wilwood performance brake kit for the Mini Cooper. My only gripe is they should offer the calipers in a red OR black. Anyone install these yet? Click here for all the details at Moss motors.

No experience with the Mini kit, but had a 13.1" Wilwood kit on my VW and all I can say is A+ Quality and A+ Performance, Best I ever used!

Did you ask if they can be had in red? I ask because I've seen them in red somewhere, I think on El D's MCS...

I got my WW (11.75") from Todd at TCE. He would know all of the various options, listed, and not...

I went with the complete TCE BBK via Webb Motorsports. I think it's the most afordable kit out there and also the only one that I know of that provides a larger rear rotor that retains the factory caliper.

Wilwood factory kits are supplied with the DynaPro caliper. This caliper is not available in RED at this time. I'd not cross my fingers just yet either.

TCE kits are built with Forged SuperLites, thus the larger parts you see, and they too are not available in RED.

In both cases the calipers have been painted by customers who want this, but you're on your own. Other Wilwood calipers can be had in RED but there will be an 'up charge' of about $130-175 for color.

In the case of these RED calipers you'll be faced with other issues such as total kit cost, too much piston area, or very thin brake pads. None of which TCE feels is proper for your vehicle. For now your best bet may well be to paint them prior to installation.

Below is an SRT4 set up which a customer did his own paint work on. Turned out pretty nice. They aren't really that pink however....

No, these are the "....Other Wilwood calipers can be had in RED but there will be an 'up charge' of about $130-175 for color. " that Todd mentioned i believe. They are a six piston caliper and not the four that only come in black.

Personally I feel that outstanding colored calipers are becoming to 'bling' as I see every kid with a honda with them now.

Those are Wilwood built expoxy painted calipers. Not a home job.
They are not available on Wilwood factory kits nor TCE kits.

TCE and Wilwood pride themselves in providing properly sized and matched components on their kits. This assures you of both a good pedal feel and propery biased brake kit. These, while functional, are not properly sized for this application in our opinion.

onasled,

What was the total price for the front and rear kits as shown it the photo? Did you get the rotors zinc plated? If so, how is the plating holding up?
