Coil Pack Upgrades

Hey! So, I've discovered that the coil packs need to be upgraded due to the car going into limp mode when you accelerate too hard. (Had an issue in Eugene a couple months back, finally got home at 3:30-4am after driving all might at 25 mph) took the car to my buddies house
, who then proceeded to clear the errors with Torque and the cars been great. I bought the app, and have had to clear them one other time.

So, onto the issue. I know the coil packs need to be replaced. What kind can I get that's going to increase my performance and also what can I do to the turbo that is going to help get my hp 181 to maybe 200?

Any suggestions?

TIA

Go with OEM MINI coils. I always stick with originals on electric components. You won't get a performance benefit from coils, it either provides the proper electricity for the spark or it doesn't.

Want more power get a tune or a piggyback chip. Manic tune, JB+, NM, etc.

have you checked the plugs?

sometimes a limp mode can be because a fouled plug and these engines seem to eat plugs every 40k

I got mine with 45k and the plugs were absolute toast. new plugs went in and gave it entire new life.

check plugs first, then move on to other components

oh!!! Thank You! I bought it with 41k on it and have loved it so much I've already put 10k on it, new tires and an oil change. Time for new plugs too!

yeah, definitely check the plugs before you go dumping hundreds into coils- Im willing to bet your plugs are just toast. youll want to do them with new coils anyways, so just do the plugs first, then test it, if it keeps happening then look at new coils.

I found a set on rockauto for a reasonable price. I also did plugs which I got from ecs (OEM for a fraction of OEM price)

Id recommend ECS tuning, their shipping times arent that great, but they have great customer service and pretty good prices and OEM driven too-

PM me----

those are the plugs you need for OEM-

as for "increase performance" plugs and coil packs wont necessarily "increase performance"- they will allow for a better spark, but with increased performance you decrease reliability and longevity sometimes. Also, for an increase in power such as your wanting, theres support modifications which are required to actually obtain those numbers. its not as simple as "turn the boost up"- by doing 1 things, you need 3 others:

more air through a CAI- helps for about 1-2 HP, but this is attained due to a very slight larger volume of air accessible to the turbo- and a slightly cooler air temp. however- it still heats up going through the turbo, so the only way to really get very cold air is upgrade the intercooler and piping.

now once you do that, can the fuel mapping and fuel supply actually handle your desired increased air volume???? if your running stock boost- yes, but even then with the inter cooler youre only going to see maybe 3-4 hp because its still stock air volume, just a colder more condensed charge. youre getting more air volume in the cylinder, but not vastly that much..... at this point youll need the upgraded plugs and maybe the packs- but even then youll only see and extra 2-4 hp out of thosebecause all those are doing is creating a more efficient "hotter" spark for a more reliable combustion.
so,,,, over $1000 in and youre only seeing maybe 10hp at best

so- hit that 200 hp mark hu- intercooler, downpipe, CAI, boost pipes for more efficient air flow, plugs and coils, and now youll want to re-mapp so you can take full advantage of how much fuel you can give the engine to return it to that stoich AFM for the best available power.......... at this point youre running into how much load youre putting on the fuel injector duty cycle......

get my drift??? obtaining actual HP rather than butt HP is an expensive ordeal. want that butt dyno HP feel?????? put new plugs in it, quality gas and put engage SPORT mode.......... theres your 200 hp feel lol

If you want 200hp, reach out to mariokart. a jb+ or nm device will also give you a bump in HP and TQ.
