ignition coil or coil pack problem?

I have a 2004 mini cooper s, with 111k on it. I am having an issue with the car while it is idling. It will sit at normal idle but you can feel it and see it kind of drop maybe 50 or 100 rpms then back up to normal. I dont notice any real difference while driving, although i may just be used to it acting goofy and not notice it. My spark plugs number 2 and 3 were both loose the other day, and i pulled the plug off of the ignition coil points and all were bright and shiney clean except for ignition point number 2 which had some rust on it (this happened to be the plug that was turned out the most.) So it tightened them down and put the coil wires back on and started it and it is still doing the idle thing. I am wondering now if it is the coil pack or the ignition coil itself. I checked the spark plugs and they were not fouled. However i will be changing them anywyas just in case. Given the symptoms, could anyone give me advice of whether to try the plug wires or the coil itself before i go out and buyt he wrong one. thanks a lot in advance!!!
