Door brake upgrade?

Well, so I've searched on this with no luck...

Anyone upgrade the up to 05/2003 door brakes to the from 05/03 door brakes on an r53? Mine are full of rust and creak/groan when you open the doors. Going to be putting some dynamat and led's in the doors while doing a rebuild, figure it'd be a good time to upgrade these, assuming the newer style are more durable...

More specifically, trying to get rid of these:

In favor of these:

Anybody? Will likely require some modding, but who doesn't love the chance to cut on their baby with a dremel?

Interesting idea. I have the old ones and would be happy to upgrade if it's possible.

Might just have to scoop some up cheap from a scrapyard and see what magic I can work. Hoping they have a more sturdy feel to them, with added durability and less noise...Anybody out there have experience with these?

Thanks ECS. Have you heard of anyone upgrading?

Seeing as you've likely held both parts, do you see any reason/need to upgrade from the old type to the new type? Are they more sturdy/durable or is a swap not worth the hassle?

Cheers!

Welcome,

Not yet , one guy tried and said it worked. But never showed pics

The new ones are smoother then the older design.

Sounds like a challenge! Think I'll start with a scrapyard to make sure it's feasible before shipping parts back and forth...If it works out, I'll be sure to share pictures...

If you come across the guy who tried, maybe we hound him for photo's...

Thanks again!

The holes that the brakes go through on the pre 05/2003 door shells are smaller than the post 05/2003 door shells. You would need to make the hole in your door shell slightly bigger to upgrade to the 'newer' style door brake. We have plenty of them available used and can ship first thing on Monday if needed. Here is a link to one we have showing on our website!

Please let me know if we can help you with anything else!

Thanks Allmag!

I've checked out your site a number of times, been looking to send some money your way...lol

I poked around the door hinges you have. Looks like there is only a listing for the right side, do you have both left and right? Same price, $29 each?

Also on the hunt for a used passenger side external A-pillar trim piece in decent shape for an r53. Didn't see any on the site, any chance you have one hiding?
