So one of my brake rotors on my 2015 MCS with approx 3,300km is wearing unevenly. My right front brake rotor has about 7.5mm thickness at one side of the disk while the other side of the same rotor is only about 4mm. All the other three rotors are fine at around 6mm through out the entire disk.
Might be a sticky caliper or something, you are up north so its might be from the rock salt on the caliper or something, would have MINI dealer in Canada check it out.
MINI service rap said its actually normal that the thickness of the rotor is different, because they took off some of the metal to balance the rotor. so when you drive it doesn't cost any vibrations and its part of the production.
My friend think it's a "woman answer" trying to send me home without doing anything.
I don't have my car at this moment, but i will double check when I got my car back later on today!
Sorry about my silly question, i am new and I didn't know anything about brake rotors prior to this. After researching around at least now I know how to change my own rotors and brake pads if necessary.
That Mini service adviser should be reprimanded for giving a bs answer. You have an almost new car and need a serious bit of work on your brakes. I'd demand new brakes and rotors. Tell them your life depends on the brakes.
Btw I've noticed a trend towards hiring service advisers who are more sales and customer focused as opposed to people who know cars and understand the mechanics of it. Bring back the gear-heads in oil stained t shirts.
Thank you for helping me out everyone! I am so sorry about the confusion. Due to my lack of knowledge for the brake rotors, I didn't know the front rotors has a "gap" in the middle. So I only measured the "outer" ring for the rotors. Been researching online yesterday and found that 1) brand new front rotors are about 22mm, while the back rotors are about 10mm and 2) MINI purposely took off some of the metal on the rotors to balance the rotors (both front and rear). Apparently it's a new thing for the 3rd Gen MINIs.
After I got my car back yesterday, I remeasured my rotors. They are about 22mm at the front, and 10mm at the back. Yay for me!!! worried for nothing!!

Its ok, I have seen many factory rotors like this , not a new thing. Just might have not noticed it on a car before.
gen 1 MINI front rotors.
You can see on the left side back rotors the balance cut on the vains edge of the rotor. On cool thing MINI has does in the last year is Geomet coated( across the line ) the rotor hats and edge/ vein. They only had this on newer Gen 2 MINIs.
I guess it's not really relevant but I like this photo of one of my rear rotors, showing a bit of wear. Surprisingly, there wasn't much evidence of this when driving, though it explained some of the clunks when setting off on a Monday morning when I hadn't used the car for the weekend - not pads releasing from the rotor, but the surface of the rotor coming away!
Hands up any children who can tell that roads are salted here in winter...

My rears on my 2005 started to flake on the edges replaced them at about 4 years..failed the yearly inspection.......salts and the the MAG-Chloride, etc substitutes are hard on parts...
But yours..OUCH...look like they were a couple years overdue!!
To the OP...
The uneven wear MIGHT be normal IF you are an aggressive driver...the MINI uses the brakes to simulate a locking differential, it basically runs the brakes on ONE side to get get rid of the Torque steer you see if you accelerate HARD (on some cars you need to counter steer to keep the car stright when the pedal is pushed WAY down..no need on a MINI, it uses the computer and brakes to make the car simpler to drive.
Unusual for so few miles, yes...I would expect to see that kind of wear when the pads are HALF worn as a guess...but folks have different driving style....
Looks like the dealer took it all apart, and worked on it..so no worries. Enjoy your new car!!
