harness rather than thermostat?

Replaced my thermostat for the 3rd time a couple months ago and its been working properly, untill yesterday. I went out on a 400+ mile road trip, about a quarter of the way through, I got the P0497 code for the thermostat. I cleared it, but then about 3/4 of the way through the drive, I got a P0599 code, again for the thermostat.

Odd thing is, the thermostat seemed to be working properly the entire time, according to my scangauge, car was around 215 to 218 the entire trip, hitting 220 once or twice when sitting in traffic. I could turn the HVAC fan up to high and the temp would drop, showing that the thermostat is indeed working as it should.

I'm starting to wonder if there's a problem with the wire harness itself, or a fuse maybe? Figured before I go digging I'd ask and see if theres any other issues I might be overlooking.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Nick

What year is your Mini? Mine was a 2011 and had a recall for a similar issue.

Yes, there was a recall on the sensor part. But that was replaced. All I can think of is wire harness ? Or a bad factory temp sensor. What year also?

Just doing a bit of searching and found these two threads on NAM. Might see if any of them might provide good info or are relevant. Give the dealer a call and see what they say.

Sorry for the late reply, thanks for the help folks!

I figured out what it was, the plug for the thermostat control had wiggled free from the thermostat...we were on some bumpy dirt roads during the road trip, so that probably did it.

Unfortunately, it looks like the retaining clip on the plug might be broken. I put the plug back on the thermostat, and gave it a little tug to make sure it was seated, and it pulled off. Pushed it back on harder, and it was still able to come off. It doesnt come off easily, but its certainly not being secured by the clip.

Might add a dab of some non-permanent adhesive to hold it in place. Its either that or replace the plug.

Thanks for the update , kind of figured it was the harness or something.

Which one was it. Might be able to find a new harness side clip plug for you.

It was the thermostat control plug (not the temp sensor). I cleaned both the plug and socket and added just a dab of adhesive. If it doesnt hold I'll look for a new plug.

Thanks,
Nick

Ok, thanks for the update. There is a 5 or 11 digit code on the plug, if you need it let me know.
