Check to make sure the latch and micro switch in the back is engaged. Does the top even slide back to sunroof stage?

Here some info , read up

i just tried applying pressure to top while pushing button and i got some movement. it seems that maybe there is a sensor that is not functioning correctly.

Hello,

The font gate might be broken or jammed. Without knowing more of your probelm that your having, its hard to tell. Go through the thread linked above and look at all the checks for the sunroof function and the convertible funtion.

Here is a link to some of the most common replaced parts:

Question: the owners manual says to use the hand crank only to close roof on my 05 mini conv. not to open it. and it says to turn screw on rear motor counter clockwise one and a half turns before using hand crank on front motor. my question is, can i use the hand crank to open roof and should i turn screw on rear motor before i do?

I believe you can crank it either way o the sunroof, does it move at all manually. The sunroof motor controls the sunroof portion and the rear one controls the top portion. When they talk about cranking the rear I believe its to loosen the stress on the top a bit before you open the front. Follow the manual on that one. Thanks and good luck. Let us know what they said after the diagnosis, there are many mechanical parts to the top and without looking at the whole top its hard to diagnose. Use the links provided as a trouble shoot and looks for area of damage.

Thanks

Here is the MINI convertible Manual PDF R52; Page 37 talks about the overheat issue and emergency closing of the top. Page 38 continues the manual closing.

You are welcome. I have seen when the main battery is on its way out, the top gets slower to move over days. Good luck.

okay, got the car back from mini today, they told me that the sunroof section could not be repaired, i needed to replace whole thing. Get this.... i drove an hour home kinda bummed cause ther is no way i can swing the $3700. i pushed the button for the roof and it went down and back up no problem!!!!! Mini Service are either a bunch of morons or they just tryin to rip me off!!!

Maybe they disconnected the battery while it was in and it reset something?

Thats great news tho. Got advice from Detroit Tuned that mine probably has forgotten its 'home' position and suggested manually pulling it up while holding the button. gonna try that tonight.

Now of course the top is not working again but i now know for sure that mechanically everything works fine, even tho the Morristown mini service guys said whole thing
needed to be replaced. i have some sensor problem i think.

I noticed while top was in partial open position that a piece was missing. maybe I'll be lucky and i can fix problem by replacing piece if i can find one. if thats the case i will be driving back to mini service and demanding my $150 diagnostic charge back and giving them an earfull.!!!

The piece/pieces i am looking for is the small plastic sleeve that fits over post from conv. top( the post that slides into hole on windshield)and also the small rubber washer/grommet that slides over it. Any ideas where i can get these small parts? Thanks

Did yours try to move but just couldn't? Thats what mine is doing. My wife and I manually put it up but it won't lock or finish closing, and now it does the same on open, moves a few cm then the light blinks. :(

mine ended up just a simple reset of the windows. Close the doors, put the windows up, then hold both window up buttons for 1 second. BOOM. Top works like magic! (Pg 32 in the manual I think)

I got parts i needed from ECSTuning for $42. and installed in a few minutes. Now top works great every time!!! Unbelievable that i could fix it for $42 and 10 minutes and Morrisstown Mini had it for 3 days, charged me $150 diagnostics and gave me an estimate for almost $4,000 !!!! This cannot just be incompetence, its criminal!!
