OBDII readings

I have a 2008 JCW. Noticed some power issues (just seemed sluggish) and boost gauge was acting funny. Checked the hose and sure enough it was split. I fixed that and then plugged in an OBDII Bluetooth tool to get the readings on my phone.

Vacuum was at -14 and max boost was at 7psi. That seems awfully low and car still seems sluggish. Anybody know what the boost should be around? Does this maybe indicate a leak?

Also, anybody know a OBDII plugin tool that works with IOS? I had to borrow my kids Android phone to get readings off the one I have.

Engine was replaced around 7k miles ago, for what that's worth.

-14 psi sounds about right. -14 inHg does not. Which were you reading?

Boost is variable based on conditions. I see anywhere from ~9-14 on my 2010 MCS. Also make sure the car was fully warmed up as it will reduce output until warm.

It is PSI. I was thinking 10-12 was normal. When I had an Accessport it seemed it was around 14.

For iOS I strongly recommend this wifi adapter:

1.) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...9SIA1EF0SN5964

paired with this app:

2.) DashCommand from Palmer Performance. It was on sale for $9.99 on the App Store. Palmer Performance also has a free version of ScanXL that you can download from their website to a laptop running Windows. You can then use the laptop to connect via the wifi adapter if you prefer.

Your boost readings do seem low.

Depends on state of the motor. Under decel -14 is about right idling would be more -10 to -12.

I'm not worried about idling. The man concern is the low PSI under load. Shouldn't it be higher than 7-8 at full throttle? Even if cold?

Oh yes, most definitely. Although BMW is very good at limiting output when the engine coolant temp is cold (not sure if you meant coolant or outside temp). Make sure you get up to at least 185F before doing your trial runs.

I waited for the coolant temps to increase and then it ran around 14 psi under load. All seems good now. Thanks for the input

Good to hear! I did a couple of trials today. At 120f or so (9f outside), I got 6.9 psi. At 195f (15f outside) I got 11.8 psi.
