R60 all4 owners: notice a popping sound when reversing and turning sharply?
all4 owners: notice a popping sound when reversing and turning sharply?
This has happened to me a few times: when backing out of a parking space and turning the wheel to full lock I can hear and feel a sort of popping/jerking. It is a lot like what happens when you leave a 4 wheel drive vehicle in 4wd and try turning on pavement. Makes me wonder if its the all system acting up...

have not noticed this ...
since seeing this thread, i have made a point of going full lock, both right and left while reversing, no noise, no jerking, and i would know it if it was happening, my 4wd p/u does not have a center diff and will hardly move on dry pavement at full lock

I tried to narrow down when it happens but no luck so far. The drive train was warm, however. I'm going to see how it is when I leave work and then again in the morning before anything has warmed up.

Although mine does not make the noise (well at least not yet with only 500 miles on the clock), it does sound most like a CV joint, and if that's the case, it's likely nothing to be concerned about. Do you feel anything in the steering wheel when it happens? If it's not a CV joint, it might be normal noise from one of the differentials. Again, as several owners are hearing it, it's probably not an issue. Then again, it costs little to demonstrate the noise to your service department and see what they say.
I have this exact issue. Seems to be when starting off on a tight turn. I think it is the 4wd binding. Im guessing since we start off with a 50/50 split of the 4wd there is some binding. Reminds me when you have 4wd engaged, say in an suv, on dry pavement.
Had this on our ALL4 S back in January, it turned out the rear diff clutch pack was failed and it was replaced under warranty.
If it gets constant and not once in a while have the dealer check for a puma alert on diff clutch pack failures.
