Ethanol Fuel Treatment

Has anyone tried any of these ethanol fuel treatments that are now on the shelves?
http://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-s-f...ve-system.html

Some of us sought out ethanol free gas with mixed success.... now there are these magic elixirs. I'm most curious if anyone has run one yet . . . any impact on performance? Was it unnoticeable?

I'm worried it will mess up my engine more than the ethanol - which so far has had NO noticeable effect.

inquiring minds want to know . . .

if it is invisible I might toss it in for piece of mind altho that's just about as dumb as changing MINI oil at twice the maker's recommendations as many folks do . . .

My neighbor was talking about this just yesterday. I'm curious as well. Maybe I'll try it out on my mower first. Definitely seeing some issues on the mower.

small engines up to and including small outboard motors seem to be the worst case for ethanol

I figured it all for crap - the dire stories of ethanol damage - but where I work had problems with small engines. I work at a zoo and the landscape crew was eating weed-wackers and chain saws fast. We also saw a problem with the zoo's 30 year old train and started buying eth' free for all of these.

Around here the probable place to find eth' free is a marina - filling boats . . .

but what about these new wonder products?????

You aren't removing the ethanol with those products, so I'd say they're snakeoil.

I'm lucky. Just down the street from me is a station that sells ethanol free premium.

Try marine 2 stroke oil.

I have used it in my truck at a 500:1 ratio for a few years and have seen people running as much at 250:1 ratio as a fuel additive to lubercate rubber seals, fuel pump, sending unit, injectors, and resist corrosion in steel fuel lines, fuel rails, etc.

My dealer said that a few people have tried a product called Sta-Bil with great results. They now offer it for cars.Has anyone else tried it?We really don't know what these stations are adding to their fuel with prices going up like they have been in the past couple of weeks.

That's the OTHER product my neighbor was talking about. Supposedly in a green bottle? I need to do some more research I guess.

yes, this product is being advertized heavily around here for the boat crowd who already HAS an ethanol issue - demonstrated by the marinas still carrying eth' free.

Sta-Bil as a brand has a long history for their fuel stabilizer for storage - also typical when one puts the boat up for the winter . . . and popular with the collector car crowd.

Basically what a lot of these products do is remove moisture from your tank.
Ethanol breaks down and procuces moisture and the stabalizer's slow the breakdown process and/or evaportates water in your tank.

Ethanol has a small shelf life before the breakdown process.

Unfortunately it sits in a tank before it gets shipped, pumped into a carrier that doesn't get drained on a regular bases then stored at the gas station, which also doesn't get drained regularly and then to you the consumer.

At this point the moisture is already in the fuel and has about a month shelf life before it breaks down even further to the point that it severley effects it's purpose.

Hi Capt BJ

Sta-Bil makes an additive for using if problems with ethanol. Go to their website for information. It is not used for storing your car but to prevent the ethanol from messing up your engine.

I don't know if you have been informed but Representative Matt Gaetz District 4 has a bill in to repeal the stupid "ETHANOL MANDATES" it is House Bill 4013 and everybody in Florida needs to contact their representatives and senators to support this important bill.

It will take a lot of supporters to get rid of this crap.

Almost everybody in Tallahassee knows this crap is bad but nothing will get passed without a great number of us complaining to our great leaders.

************ HB-4013 needs to be supported to go through*****

Ironic that the ethanol thing all started as a way to reduce fuel cost but also toget rid of corn crops that would go to waste because there is way to much surplus and now more farmers are growing corn to cash in.
