Question : Which would you recommend - 06 S or 07 S?

Hello All,

I am a soon to be MINI owner, I have found two comparable vehicles and am now trying to get some input into which S is the better choice, the 06' or the 07'?

07' S Specs

Leather, Manual, 36,000, heated seats, sunroof, alloy wheels

06' S Specs

Leather, Manual, 23,000, Harmon Stereo, heated seats, sunroof, alloy wheels

See not much of a difference, except the Supercharged vs the Turbo.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thanks from a newbie!

I *personally* would go for the 06, as I prefer the interior, and the miles are lower.

However, there are a LOT of differences between the two generations. If you do a search here for "R56 vs R53" you'll find tons of comparisons and arguments as to which is better and why.

I say it's personal preference. Drive both and decide which you like better!

Welcome to NAM!

You need to drive them both, but for me that low mileage 06 MCS would be the one for sure.

Not just saying this because I am an r53 owner but I had a similar decision also, 07 or 05, after months of reseach AND personal preference I went with the 05, IMO I like the look better, interior, sound of the supercharger whine, and of course the vast amount of aftermarket mods!

Also, 06 is the best for R53's. Do some research on this forum and decide for yourself, either way, there both a hell of fun to drive!

And make sure you test drive them both, you'll feel a big difference in the two!

I have the 07 S, and love it, but I kinda like the looks of the 06'S better. I really wanted to give you an answer, but I couldn't, so I called Yogi and he said intentially walk the elephant, and pitch to the giraph, he's gotta a bigger strike zone. Do your resarch, they're both great, but I really think it's a personal thing.

IMO, the '06 S is the best of both gens.

For me, when the '07s came out I parked my '02 S right next to a '07 S and just could not get past the changes. Physically, the '07 just looked clunky. The '02 was sleek and proportional.

Engine wise, give me a supercharger any day. Love the whine. These new turbo motors, for me, just don't cut it. I know I know, they crank more horses. But the whine if a supercharger.....ah yes.....music to me ears.

And that's why I now own an '06 S.

Like Chuck said, drive 'em both (and listen for that whine ).

+1 Five years of design improvements and bug fixes culminating in what is probably the best manufacturing year yet of the MINI since BMW got in the game. You start over with a new design (and new bugs) in '07. It's an easy choice, IMHO.

And the One that stole my heart...

I think I am in love! Drove the 07' twice, drove this one (the 06') twice. I even drove an automatic 07' just to be sure. This was the first MINI I drove and I am hoping to bring it home tomorrow night. Can't Wait!

Thanks for all of the input!

good choice, you'll fall into the obsession of modding your r53 and personalizing it. keep us posted and make sure you post in the 1st generation sections!

Cool color combo, and congrats!

It really is personal preference between the two, IMO. The styling/performance/handling/interior/etc is all similar, so it's mostly based on what the buyer prefers. Test drives are of utmost importance.
