rattling issues...

Hey all,

my mini (2005 s) makes a good bit of noise when going over rough road. It sounds like it comes from the back, and it comes and goes. Sometimes everything sounds nice and solid, other times, it sounds like the damn car is about to fall apart.

Is this a common thing, and has anyone found a solution?

thanks much!

MINIs are not very sound proof from road noise, and your sitting inches off the road. If you have your back seats folded down, or completely removed, the noise is even louder.

To fix this, play your favorite music with the little black **** on the stereo turned way to the right

and dont bug yr service advisor unless it gets REAL bad my dash had a rattle that at one time sounded like freaking bubble wrap being twisted and popped. Lotsie's li'l black *** trick didnt help. I told them it was a deal breaker that Id get rid of the car (aug 04 build 05 S) unless it was fixed. and shore nuff 4 shop days later it was. almost 2 years later it's come back, but at tolerant occasional scale dependent on road surface, moreso in winter. I turn up the CC

but sometimes the rattles are like a little plastic symphony tho, Rover conducting

If it sounds like a "clunk" sort of noise, then it may be the top strut nut, as that has been known to be a source of noise when not tightened down all the way. However that usually doesn't pop up unless the suspension was worked on or removed at some point.

Ditching the runflats and putting on some 15 inch rims will decrease or eliminate all rattles and creaks.

Common dude! Interior plastics seem affected by exterior temperature = creaks at times.
