FIREBALLED! RACING - The "PROJECT" formerly known as "MARY"
EVOLUTION OF POWER
Fireballed! Racing is the official motorsports program of BMW NA/MINI USA and we have been in partnership to develop programs to promote the MINI Cooper platform in the lifestyle and performance segment of the Sport Compact industry. Our project vehicles are currently the fastest and most powerful street and race MINIs constructed and we have developed and tested innovative components and assemblies. In our quest to push the limits far beyond what was originally intended or expected, we have also expanded our knowledge of the platform and our approach to product development and factory integration has been evolutionary.
In 2007, we will be continuing our efforts to push the performance envelope of the M600 Race Car and will be incorporating new technologies and components into the program that will raise the bar once again and continue our success in showcasing the versatility of the platform to industry leaders and automotive enthusiasts.
The purpose of Project "MARY" is to provide insight into the inner workings of building a successful program and the effort that is required to design, manufacture, and test prototypes and production components and/or assemblies. Project "MARY" will evolve and eventually integrate into our race program and its success and potential will be showcased at the NHRA Sport Compact World Finals, Oct. 20-21 at Pomona Raceway, Pomona, CA.
Chassis: 2002 Mini Cooper S
Engine: 2005 Crate Motor w/stk pulley Supercharger
Trans: 2005 w/factory LSD
Intake: None
Header: Stock
Exhaust: Stock
Suspension: Stock
Intercooler: Stock
Wheels and tires: Factory 16" 195/55R16 Dunlop M&S
ECU: v32 software with rev limit increase only

Testing performed on DynoJet Chassis Dynamometer

Baseline testing on stock vehicle yielded 169.47WHP.
As a reference, we included data from a MINI GP which made 178.48WHP at 7100 RPM.
The stock vehicle made 158.40WHP at the same RPM point.
Next, we replaced the stock cylinder head with our Fireballed! Stage Three Race Head and returned to the dyno a few hours later.
With only a cylinder head change, "MARY" mustered an incredible 202.98WHP at redline which equates to a whopping 33.51WHP increase!! in peak WHP.
As a reference, using the GP data at 7100 RPM:

An incredible 37.96WHP increase with only a cylinder head change.
To our knowledge, we believe this is the most peak WHP a stock MINI has ever made with just a cylinder head change.
Obviously, dyno numbers are relative and we only concern overselves with deltas and accumulating test data, but we like every true enthusiast, get excited at achieving certain benchmarks.

Next Up..........custom camshaft.

Wow. When I saw this thread title, I thought Kris (GBMINIGIRL) was getting her MC Fireballed. She has a site called "ProjectMary.com".
What RPM was used to compare?
Why that RPM?
What was the RPM limit increased to?
Would it be possible to overlay the RPM on the graph please.
From the graph it looks like you could have chosen a slightly higher RPM to acheive an even greater delta.
Thanks for sharing your research.

I think its interesting that;
and
yet;
Is there anyone else with a professional drag race MINI besides Fireballed! ? Put in that context this;
doesn't really mean much.
Thanks...
Hubie-
What is in store for Mary next????

I appreciate that you have the insight to see that this is not about choosing numbers to show the largest deltas. We used the GP redline just as a reference point. Unfortunately, the tach pickup was acting up at high rpms, but i will post rpm graph and torque data.
