First High School Advanced Photo Project.

I was accepted into advanced high school photography, and I am doing my first project on my Baby. I have awesome photos, and I will post them when I make prints, and scan.

PS, this is real photography, where I develop the film. I enlarge the Negitive, and make the print with the correct exposure time, so it could take a while.

I'm glad to see they are still teaching the fundamentals of photography in school. Especially since just about everything is Digital now. My hubby is a professional photographer and I can remember the days when everything he did was in a dark room either at the office or at our home office.

Can't wait to see your pictures!!!

How cool! I'm also glad that they're still teaching more than "put the camera on full-auto and press the button". Even with digital, it's really important to understand the fundamentals and this will give you a real leg up on the hope for the best and fix it in Photoshop crowd. Developing b&w is lots of fun, too. I'll look forward to seeing your results!

I would have taken advanced photography this year, but I switched to a school that doesn't offer it. I did however take photo 1 last year and enjoyed it. There is waaaaayyyyy more invovled into "making a picture" than people really think.

I was just thinking the other day while playing with a little girl that this child was going to grow up and one day say "what's film?"
it was a scary thought...all though I'm all digital, it's just weird...like I've officially lived through an era...I'm old

Film photography has only become obsolete in the 35mm format. Plenty of photographers still use medium and large format photography as their hobby and as a part of their job. Landscape, good panoramas, portraiture. They all live on in the larger formats of film photography.

HAHHA, tons of people use 35mm film. It is the standard for ANY film type camera. Right?

Wow. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film_formats

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medium_format
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Large_format

http://www.tamron.com/bronica/prod/etrsi.asp <-- My medium format camera for my film class. I will be using a 35mm back on it only because the teacher requires the use of 35mm format film. Apparently it's easier to learn on and develop. So he tells me.

But probably not old enough to ever have ever "dialed" a phone. Or actually used a "radio button" on your car radio.

Getting old is not all that it is cracked up to be but the alternative is worse. <G>

PS-My son (24 years old) asked last week if he can throw away the enlarger I gave him. He says it is taking up too much room and still smells like a dark room. I thought a minute and even though it hurt, it is now gone.

I like the smell of a darkroom... gotta get my "fix." Sorry, had to do it.

I miss the good ol' days of being in the dark.

Ahhh..... The Good Ol' Days!!
Took Photo all through High School and continued on to the Academy of Art in San Francisco. You could always tell if someone was a Photo Major. We were the ones wearing a can opener on a chain, smelling of fixer and had the "8 hour darkroom squint"!

Oh how sweet it is! I love mine.
It wasn't as hard as it seems. We converted the utility room in the garage into my Zone. I kept an eye on the paper for someone selling a complete darkroom and *poof*. If you really enjoy the process don't hesitate to build yourself one.

And think about giving Infrared a try. With Kodak HIE you use the same chemicals as with T-Max and Tri-X Pan, D-76. Let me know if you are interested and I'll be happy to give you the low down.

Enjoy the class

Thats lame. My teacher, hates you the first year, and if you can handle it, then the second year, she will spoil you and baby you.

But I had to re-shoot. All the film looked good, then once I was enlarging, I realized how bad it turned out, shot more and develoved it yesterday, sorry for the delay. And infrared is the next project.

Ahhh I agree! I would have surely taken it. I have been taking far fewer photos due to the inability to access a free darkroom for years. I love creating my own photos and can't bear to bring my film to some dinky 1-hour place to get prints! I'd so much rather do it myself, that's the fun part (I don't even own a digital camera).
