Have you tried setting the camera to b&w or sepia?

I always shoot color in camera (no chioce and even if I had it I prefer to do it PP) Top two are selectively colored just cause I hadn't done any in a while and wanted the practice.

First time I've noticed the kill marks. I had my black Jetta when those came out, so stuck them on the window.

The tailight one is a fresh perspective.

I really dig the way the rear quarter panel creates this reflective sweeping motion near the fenderwells. You captured it very well in this photo.

Also digging the contrast of the rich red tail lamp on the unsaturated Black Pearl.

Well done especially as the cold weather has made it more of a challenge for you and your patientice to find the creative composition.

Yeah its one of my more favorite subtle lines, really makes ya womder how cool a subtle wide body kit would look on the MINI (ok maybe just me)

I like the tail lamp shot, I think the way the polarizer makes the lines in the lamp while a little bit tacky is also neat effect.

Cold has cut down my outdoor shooting times, but I've been using the indoor time as a chance to try some new techniques imporve PP skills and re-learnt he rules and look at other types of photos to kind of retrain my eye to see thing a little differently agian. I was also at the auto show shooting car in general to get back tot he basics hoping to have some of the better ones form my few days there edited and reay soon.

Ok this is a different photo than the one posted taken with a different les and given a much finer grooming in Photoshop.

Also I'd appreciate some C&C with these, shows generally suck as far as conditions go but I did some more complex stuff in PP and they all got a certain level of modification.

The car shows shots are difficult. You got harsh lighting, maybe some flourescent. You got bad angles, glaring lights, etc.

BUT, the biggest critique I got on the Car show is ....

WTH are the models in bikinis?????????

IMHO, you lost the motion in the rear quarter panel reflections and it's not as appealing to me as your previous shot. That's this geek's $.02 FWIW.

I like what you did with the auto show photos. The soft focus worked well to reduce the multitude of strong spotlights on the cars. You're getting better with the masking. On the R32 though, you need to mask out the car before you hue shift it, then you can get it to the vibrant pink you were seeking. What instrument panel was that with the 8500 rpm redline?

OK .... 50 degrees today so the car cover came off.

The car is DIRTY so no snide remarks about dirt All Macro shots, Even at F16, terrible Depth of Field. Well, just learning with this lens. No photochop stuff except crop and resize.

Maybe I'll get to wash the car this weekend ... maybe. Macro lens shows EVERY piece of dirt

The goal with this one was to get the car to be a more defined black and eliminate the reflections, which that and a little more direc angle killed it off. I didn't even think abou tthe other shot until I went to post.

That and I did some heave glaussian blur and then switched them to pin light, killed off the reflections and didn't even add blur with a few the way the layer was blended. I picked up the soft focus technique from a portrait tutorial and have been playing with variations on it recently. Used it in my Contest entry this month, which is a photo I like cause I can stare at it for a long time and keep seeing new details I like and it has good basic composition, however I'm afraid it won't get many votes because the technical detail is where the photo excels IMO
You're getting better with the masking.
I did a little straight out painting but no masking with these

RX-8 a car thats been growing on me a lot recently.

Perjaps they were my MINI pics and my Autoshow pics (even though I linked those out) yeah finally reached my breaking point and re-registered with a different (familiar to y'all) user name.

My foavorite of those is the caliper. SOmething I think you may appreciate trying is shut off the flash pull out the tripod and even consider rolling into the sun (evening is ideal for whole car shots but with such macros even midday could get some good results) most sufer from the flash kicking up the reflective surfaces and leaving you with a lot over and a lot under exposed.

But I'm a no-flash person by nature too.

And heres a little thing I threw together for kicks in photoshop today.

Yeah, I just ran out to do those. That's actually the ring flash I bought with the macro. It has all kinds of weird settings I got to play with.

So much to do ... so little time

Yeah, the caliper is the best.

Ahh, there you are

Was that the Detroit auto show?

Any idea how much the yellow PCCBs cost? Guess. Scroll down ...

$8K as an option. $4K/wheel to replace the rotor and pad and NOT covered under warranty Needless to say they are far and few between

I made this comparison of 5 alternative ways of converting to BW on my photo website:
http://gandini.unm.edu/PGpages/Photo...c/PhotosBW.htm
One of the alternatives is using the Channel Mixer referenced above.

Nice informative article, but they lost me when they started using Brightness/Contrast...Ansel would just never do that! Brightness/Contrast destroys image information. Yes, it's true: Ansel Adams forged his iconic imagery with heavy manipulation, but not to the point of completely wiping out highlight and shadow details. But I digress...calculations
