So what do you think? Some StoopidGirl inspired "In Motion" Shots.

Driving yesterday, I decided to snap about 80 pics while in the passenger seat of Monica's (XXSML's) car. I have only edited 3 total, but wanted to know what you think. The one with the North American Van Lines truck I may edit with a little motion blur, and submit it for this months contest. Kinda suits this site with the name and all...
Unfortunately, they are very similar to StoopidGirl's winning photo, so I may not have a chance, but nonetheless, I had fun shooting. As I edit more tonight I will post up a few of my fav's, as I have some going around San Luis Resevoir, as well as some canyon carving shots. Thanks for the inspiration MLE!

oooh nice. I like the one with the overpass. How about if you don't want them to look like mine try holding your camera out the window but keep it low to the ground facing either forward or back so you get one of your tires in the shot, that always seems to work quite nicely or you could leave your shuttuer open on a trypod and run around your mini really fast.No one ever said it had to be the mini that's moving. Any streams near your area? (see I'm chock full of ideas) I like those locations, the green looks really nice.
Hey Lee, if you run around your Mini taking pictures, let me know when, I want to watch.
I want to have you do some shots of mine now that its ready. Just need to clean it up again. If it ever stops rainning.

If I hang out the window while my wife is driving, you think I am safe? Not going to give her any EASY reason to get rid of me
I have over 80 more and there are a few with more motion, and yes STLMINI, maybe it is more StoopidGirl being more inspirational, than her shots, or equally inspirational. Either way MLE rocks and so does her Pics

IF it stops raining, I will be starting up the photo services again. Between being so busy, the rain and such I havent even finished editing Blake's shots. I have a few ideas for you, as well as some above the roof shots in the canyons I would like to take of SCOOBY from a distance!

I like the overpass shot best, too. If your camera allows some manual control, you might want to experiment with longer shutter speeds. 60 MPH is 88 ft/s and you want the car to move at least a few feet during the exposure so you'll get more exterior blur. The hard part is dropping the shutter speed without getting camera shake. Steady hands (or some sort of support) and a smooth road help.
A lot of the motion blur shots you see in magazines are done at really low speed--like a couple of miles an hour--but with quite long shutter speeds. For that, though, you really need to have a firm attachment to the car. DiD can tell you all about that.

awww shucks you guys...you might actually make my depressing day hear at work a little brighter. Glad to know I am inspiring...hopefully my boss thinks so too (it seems to be lay-off season...it's got me a little twitchy)
With your talents, I think you will have plenty of opportunity in AZ, BUT I doubt your boss would let you go, as if he sees half of what we see here on NAM about you, that is enough for a promotion!!
Nice pictures. Here's a tip....drop the shutter speed & have your driver speed up. Also pick a road that has things close to the road, trees, bushes maybe guard rails. That will give your pictures more of the illusion of speed.
Keep shooting!

Lee, that second pic, the overpass one, is really nice. (The road looks familiar.)
When the rains stop, you might get Monica to put the top down so you have more room to stick the camera out.
Longer shutter speeds, longer shutter speeds . . . . let that become your mantra.
I'm anxious to see the others you shot.

Yes I realize about shutter speed, as I did slow it down, but with the risk of camera shake and not being able to focus at all, I had to keep the shutter at this speed, any slower and the interior became blurry, as the camera was in my hand not mounted. Some more will be posted below...

Here are a few more, thanks for all the feedback guys. Once the weather clear.... actually, if the weather clears, I will take some topless shots from leaning out the car.. Also dont mind the bugs on the windshield, as soon as I cleaned it, and we got back on the road, SPLAT they were back...

Did anyone notice the speedo??? 90+mph isnt fast enough??
As stated, with the risk of too much camera shake, I could only slow the shutter so much, BUT I PROMISE, next round will be motion blur city....

Lee, oftentimes wide-open areas such as landscapes are not conducive to motion-blur pics.
Think about when you're driving straight along any rural highway (the 43 for example). You could be going 70 yet the tractors and cows off in the distance appear to be passing by slowly while the fence posts by the side of the road appear a blur.
On the other hand, say you're going along a curve, especially one where they have those yellow signs with black arrows, you need only be going 45 and those things seem to zoom by.
Something to keep in mind.
Try doing that along Blackstone or Shaw!

My attempt
My feable attempt to beat StoopiDiDluckyGirl.

This is on Thumb Butte Road, that is Thumb Butte straight ahead. I was holding the camera in my right hand, leaning way forward (if the freakin' seat belt would freakin' let me!!!!), glancing at the LCD screen, whoops watch the road fool! I should have been doing 80 mph to get more "in Motion" effect, eh?
