Sunsets are just not happening for me lately, so remixing Kurt's instead since he has yet to object. Plus, I've got to taunt him into using PS because I've got nothing better to use against him.

IMHO, doesn't need HDR...

Quick 5 minute edit. Curves adjustment layer on sky, quick mask (large 0% hard brush) out on Swifty and ground. Another curves adjust layer on Swifty herself and another mask on non front-of-Swifty bits. Curves on sky brought out most of the colors, a bit more sat layer to make them pop further.

So Kurt, what goodies is Swifty going to get for X-Mas (based on your sig change)?

Too many clouds tonight. Nothing PS could fix.

HERself? I've read right here on NAM that MINIs are chick cars, but I don't think the car's gender... I managed to install the intake filter, have the Borla cat-back, 4 point harness. More to come, waiting to make a giant card for the "Bone Stock Club" thread.

A reflected sunset. The mountains in the background are called the Sandias--spanish for watermelon, 'coz of the color they get at sunset...sort of.

cheers,

DrPhil makes a splash!

Really nice side shot showing the brakes. The tree reflected is cool. I'm impressed, thanks for posting.
Motor On, I have a few sunrises on here, that's great!

I have to catch up.

I was in the middle of burning dinner, stepped out the front door.

Handed the camera to Heidi.

I tried to omit the sign posts, used the "enhance" feature.

Color was happening at two locations, but not enough to light up the car.

Hey, I'm not even in the deep end, when I see photos like yours, and Motor On's! There are some really talented photographers here, and lots of experience to share. I teach an advanced digital SLR class at the university's continuing ed. division, and am always looking to understand the image-making process and distill it down to basic, transferable, information. Making photos is essential to good photography, but so is looking at other's images, especially with a critical eye (not one aimed at criticism, btw.)
Your sunsets with CR MINI are great!!

Kurt did you enhance Swifty in this one? I like the balance of the car to sunset much more , than the one that I mentioned before, Seems to balance the MINI and the sunset better.

Its all about that magic hour, I generally don't try to shoot sunsets but utilize the light at that time. Every once and a while I end up with a good shot of the sunset

Oops, sorry about that! I always refer to all cars in the female gender (all of my cars have female names). I never meant to question the masculinity of Swifty.

Glad to hear you're not having any issues figuring out ways to make Swifty more Swifty!

Also, I'm glad to see there is at least some urban clutter directly outside your front door. I was beginning to think you lived on top of a panoramic vista point. Love the amazing clouds on your most recent photos.

DrPhilGandini, please post more as that's a fantastic photo. +1 on the tree reflection.

I finally was able to take a sunset photo last night as I had to leave work several hours early to take Ms. Speednut for a routine checkup. I scurried quickly up to the roof of the hospital parking garage since we were a few minutes early and got something that resembles a sunset, but certainly nowhere close to an AZ one.

Ooops! It ain't a boat!

Other things go swiftly also. Patience is one. I had the exhaust guy take off my stock system, then look at the new set and declare "That won't work!" I look at the box label and '05-06 is right there.

About that time, gotta go. I second encore for DrPhilGandini.

And speednut, the story is only interesting if there is hugging the curves sort of thing going on.

This is marginal...

...for a sunset. This alpenglow lasted for only a few minutes.

The forcaster threatened some snow tonight and tomarrow. Thought washing Swifty yesterday would bring it on!

I like it. The lighting is really nice. It's also cool how you're able to get off the pavement.

I'm amazed how it can be so different. The camera has only two settings worth using, auto-all or a "night" setting.
Dave, you would be amazed how much dirt I can get on out here in the sticks. Or how much dirt will get on me.

89AKurt:
What I like so much in your CR MINI photo is the balance between front lighting (seen clearly on the front wheel) and rear lighting, provided by the sunset! There must be some front lighting, which could be provided by a flash, but better with a reflector ( or reflective surface, even though there's not too many of them in the bush...)!
Talking of sunsets, my absolutely favorite time of the day, for photographs, is after sunset when the sky is a dark royal blue--black to many but really soooo blue it hurts. Of course, artificial light is needed for any subject against such a sky, but that's the challenge.
I dont have a MINI photo to show you...yet.
Happy New Year to all you wonderful photographers!

...
Just the camera flash was used. Dave has a killer strobe reflector setup that would be nice sometimes. But if there are bushes, trees, signs, etc. close behind the car, you don't get the contrast needed. (I think...)

That is looking good! I like the dark car against the light wall and pavement, and the angle is not enough to go skiing. Just too bad the clouds were so fuzzy.

I ran an errand tonight, made a quick stop at one of my favorite locations.

Tried various post processing on this.

Had I not been busy commuting the lighting was an amazing 2 hour long "magic hour" where everything from the 6 series to the Panoz and even a few MINIs I spotted along the way looked stunning. However this spectacular light was caused by a bank of clouds giving a pseudo sunset and letting that nice soft but plenty brgiht indirect sunlight shine off of everything. I did a fairly cheezy job of removing 2 lamp posts (head;amp reflection and barrier still need some work) and there were too many cars at the garage but in the whole I'm pretty satified, also added some warming filters to it. Incase you couldn't telll this was also an HDR. I only use the angle when it is absolutley needed to remove fugly backgrounds.

Spill it what'd you use, this looks good much more is properly exposed giving a better sense of depth.

I hope you mean properly vs. property.

In PhotoImpact Pro, one window has hue, saturation, contrast; another dealt with shadows, didn't cheat with "level" or "enhance" but I think it looks too manuipulated. It's a quantity shot.

My favorite time to get a night shot too! That deep blue that can be pulled out of what seems like blackness is incredible!

Artificial light courtesy of a passing car's headlights during the long exposure.
