A Kansas Club...
Flickr group
OK, I think I'm getting this figured out. I created a group called WAMO and the URL to it is http://www.flickr.com/groups/wamo/. My first try was as an individual where someone else already had that in use.
Copy that to your 'Favorites" so you don't have to remember it. You all should get something by email about an 'invitation' to join the group in the near future. If this doesn't work out as expected I can always pull the plug and let it go. We'll see....

In order to keep more active in the club, if anyone has an idea for a favorite drive or destinations from the area they live in post it here so it can be discussed. The more choices there are the better.
dazite, you missed your chance last night to challenge Fly'n Brick to mini golf so next time you have to make up for that.
Robbie and I were discussing possibilities in and/or around Cowley Co. on the way home last night. There has been in the past, a guided tour of historic old stone bridges in the county. The downside is that they are accessable only by gravel township roads but that shouldn't be a problem if nobody gets excited and starts spraying gravel around. Time of year should also be a consideration as the drive has some wonderful countryside scenery and nature should be showing off her best frocks. We'll take a look at it soon and see what the lay of the land is and give a follow up report. There could even be an area for a stop with a pick-a-nick basket.
Yeah that was deffinately a lot of fun. It was great to meet new people and enjoy the night.
Once again Fly'n Brick, good game. For someone that hasn't played bowling in a long time you sure kicked our boots.

WAMO Yahoo Group
As requested by Flyin' Brick, I've set up a Yahoo Groups site for WAMO. It should be a bit more versatile than the Flickr site - if only for the fact we can post documents as well as pictures and we will have a basic (free) web presence.
Please join us at:

Cowley Co. stone bridge tour
I'll post this on the Yahoo group page as well:
I spent a little time this afternoon driving the first four or five miles of the proposed track for what could be an interesting drive. After about the first ten minutes or so, the idea had lost all of its lustre. The short wheel base and less forgiving tyres made the ride a bone rattling, tooth jarring torment on those gravel roads esp. where the maintainer fell asleep and allowed for scrub board ripples.
I, therefore, revoke the concept of a back country run as it stands. I've got my eye on some other ideas though.

Woolaroc?
Brick,
That's what you get for having an S with run-flats <g>. I understand exactly what you mean - I've been running around on all-seasons over gravel in New Mexico & it's not fun after the first couple of miles.
It's quite a ways away but a reasonable alternative could be to drive down to Woolaroc (http://woolaroc.org/) near Bartlesville for their opening day on March 28th. Lovely twisty roads (all blacktop) & great scenery plus a bit of everything in the museum, lodge & animal park. Could be great to meet up with some of the OK Mini group as well.
Happy New Year!

WAMO Woolaroc Wander Mk II, Saturday March 2nd, 2009
There was a great turnout at our dinner meeting and the date agreed by all for our drive to Woolaroc is Saturday, May 2nd. We will meet at Galen & Sue's house at 9 a.m.:
101 S. Bentwood
Rose Hill, KS.
From there our route will be down Highway 77 to Newkirk where it becomes OK11. We just follow 11 south & then east over Kaw Lake to Shidler. South of Shidler, the road becomes a great switchback until we join OK60 to continue east to Pawhuska. There's at least two routes to Woolaroc from there (north or south of the estate). Hopefully Batman1 will be joining us & guiding us over the last section.
We hope any other Mini owners, especially from south of the OK state line, will join us. Any suggestions for lunch (or dinner after visiting Woolaroc) would be welcome.
See you on the 2nd!

A quirky activity for people who drive quirky cars.
Newkirk, OK Main Street committee has scheduled "Hogs, Dogs & Trailer Trash" for June 13th. Part of the fun to be had is the weinie dog races. Not exactly sure what time the races are, but the dogs have to be registered by 10:00 AM. Fly'n Brick has every intention of being there. Other MINI driving curiosity seekers would be welcome and if you have a weinie dog, the entry fee is $10.00. Cultural enlightenment abounds!
so what is the WAMO website? I am a student at Pitt State and will be buying a mini in the next month or so. I am from Overland Park, KS and the kansas mini site is kinda dead most of the time.

I really wanted to go. Hope fun was had by all!
