A Big Thanks
Ok to set the record correct. The Navy has a few F-16's that they use as advisary aircraft. The F-14's were used during the making of Top Gun and now the Navy uses F/A-18 aircraft for Top Gun. That picture of the F-16's is one of the Thunderbirds. The Blue Angles perform a much better show if you ask me but I think I'm a little bias.

2009 Autocross School + Test & Tune
Kicking the year off right!
Our annual "Autocross School / Test & Tune" will be hosted at the Big Fresno Fairgrounds on 2/28 and 3/1. New this year will be the option of choosing basic or advanced instruction. Those of you that felt the need for more in years past should be more than satisfied with the advanced program. Be sure to bring a mental list of skills you'd like to work on. Of course, the "basic" program will be what most drivers will be interested in and this is absolutely still available.
Registration will fill FAST and is limited to 40 Students.
CLICK HERE TO REGISTER VIA MOTORSPORTREG.COM
INSTRUCTORS NEEDED - If you feel that you've got what it takes to instruct other drivers, please email me! Being an instructor is FREE and includes entrance to the Test & Tune on Sunday as well. The more the merrier!
I have been told that Eric Gillis has donated his raffle prize from the banquet, a $100 Tire Rack Gift Certificate, to the autocross school. I will be confirming this with him, and if so, all students will have a chance at winning it!
Saturday will be a full day of instruction starting at 8am. This day is open to registered students and instructors only.
Sunday will be a "Test & Tune" day identical to last year. For students and instructors that attended the school, this will allow you to put your newly acquired skills to the test. For all others, this is the perfect oppurtuninty to dial in your car for the season and mentally get back into the game. There will be 4 seperate 90 minute sessions. You will work 2 of them (we will be cycling workers in and out to prevent standing the entire time) and run 2 of them.
Track time is plentiful as you will be able to run as many times as wanted. There will simply be a line at the start, get in line and go whenever you like! Feel free to get right back in line to start after finishing. Runs will be timed but this a non-points event. Drivers last year were able to get 20+ runs per session.
There is a forum dedicated to discussion of the "Autocross School / Test & Tune" on our website. It can be reached directly by clicking HERE

The surface at the fairgrounds is asphalt so you won't ruin your tires.
If anything, it's fairly slick unless they have repaved since two years ago so you will have to control your car better than at Castle. Come on, sign up.

[quote=JIMINNI;2661065]I'm thinking about it since is close enough to get towed back to the shop if/when I blow my clutch. It would stop my procrastinating. You could probably borrow Brad's helmet.

Thanks for posting Jim.
The school is the weekend after the Santa Cruz Cruise and there are loaner helmets at all Solo 2. All you need is a drivers license you can leave in the helmet bag as collateral.
As far as I know the surface hasn't been repaved and is as you say Steve easy on tires.
If you are interested in learning the basics of car control at safe and sane speeds this is the best place to start. This is rock bottom folks.
I'm signing up for both days because the laps per dollar rate , not to mention the coaching, is the best all year

Great to see all the helmets that are being volunteered............
If you are buying a new one it is important that you get a helmet for use in a car not just a motorcycle. The auto standard is Snell SA 2000 or 2005. It will be labeled on the outside of the helmet on the back. Some (most) organizations won't let you on the track without that Snell rating. SCCA Solo 2 allows the use of motorcycle helmets.
Come on guy's push alittle harder
I'm a scared
K, I'm gonna do it & I'll sign up today. Dr.Steve, can we get my suspension done in time for this?
JIMINNImachine, I'll spring for a helmet & you can borrow it between laps if you'd like.

Your control arms should be here on Thursday so I will have everything but the lower, front spring perches for the KWs. BTW, Texas Speedwerks is now using the KW's and they don't think the stock spring rates are good. They can give me the part numbers for their springs if you want to switch.

FUN.
