Autocross and Track Days
I think I read somewhere that some of the track groups like HOD and NASA require that the helmet's be SA rated... not M rated, so if you plan on doing track days it might serve you well to check with the requirements for those groups. I thought that there was a "press release" that HOD was changing their requirements starting with this season....not sure with Track Masters or NASA. Might be worth the extra $$ for the SA rating just to be sure.

One word of caution........

Thanks guy's.
This is getting me stressed out now
I'm already nervous about going, now trying not to spend a bunch of money on a helmet. Ok let me figure this out. A Snell SA2005 should be good for pretty much anything I will do? How about a "open faced" Snell 2005 helmet? Thanks for the info.

you guys and all your helmet concerns are funny. I've never been to an autox where A. it even matters or B. that didn't have them available. I regularly tech at the events in Marina...and it really doesn't matter as long as it looks like an appropriate helmet. Track days are a different story. If any of you want to trek over the hills, I'll be at the Marina NorCalUFO event on the 22nd.

Marina would be cool, but we have a club event just north in Santa Cruz that weekend. I'm from Salinas a couple miles from Marina so that would have been cool.
I for one don't have an SA helmet yet, but I've got two M's. M's are normally cheaper and you can get by at MOST places, but I will be buying an SA when the 2010's come out.
Lil Mis - the SA or M ratings are Snell ratings, so DOT only wouldn't work, no. But at an autoX, if it LOOKS appropriate it would probably not get checked.
Yea, if you want something you can use at any event you're safest bet is going to be an SA rated helmet. M's aren't excepted everywhere, SA's are.

Some autoXs on the other hand I have been up to 80+ mph and there have been light poles in the vicinity...not just for the insurance people in that case.
Now corner workers, they deserve full body armor!!!
I guess, IMO it depends on the AutoX. Most that I have been to (40+) you rarely get over 50mph and there is very little if anything to collide with, thus IMO most of the time a helmet is really just there to make insurance people happy.

If it rains alot Sunday it will be puddly ( is that a word? ). The fairgrounds parking lot has a few low areas so if the rain is heavy we'll have to steer around any ponds. If it is a light sprinkle it's no problem.Just thought of two things that haven't been covered. To help our cars handle quicker we should air up our tires to the high thirties say 38-40 psi. If that looks to be too high we can always lower it. Secondly if you have the ability to adjust your rear sway-bar to a higher setting it will allow the rear of the car to move around a little which will lower under-steer and balance the car.
Gates open at 7 am Saturday. See ya there.
Cloudy Saturday and possible showers Sunday.

The schedule is posted on the Fresno SCCA website. Check in and teching all the cars is between 7 and 8 am. Doesn't look like the school enrollment is any where near the max of 40 so we'll be able to be pretty flexible I would think.
I couldn't find any times on the website? Steve you said you are going to bring your air compressor right? Are you going to bring your air gauge also?
.......... just playin mang
