I'm wallpapering the front bathroom but I'll drop everything and see if I can remember how to get to Fresno...... Ah retirement.... it's so over-rated.

Thanks for adding to the expanding ' William Gagan Library '.

Would love to come down but not in the budget right now.
How do you like your Dunlop Z1's? Need some new "shoes" and was looking at those. Got good rateing from Tire Rack. Cheaper than the GY F1's I have now......which are toast. 1/2 dozen AutoX and another 6+ track days were the killer.
thanks,

Honestly I'd have to say my Z1 Star Specs are the best street tire I have ever used. I've tried (on other cars) S02s, BFG KD's, Fuzion ZRi's, Hankook RS2's, and several others...the are by FAR my favorite. I highly recommend them. However I don't think you will see a whole lot of life on them.

Tire life is not an issue for me. My MINI was 4yrs old in August and only 36kmi., on my 3rd set of tires....soon to be 4th set. Not my daily driver, mostly weekend twisties, occasional AutoX and 4-5 track days per year pretty well eat them up.
Thanks again for your input.

Cliff and I did it last year and it was a hoot. Ferrari's, Vets, Vipers, and a whole gaggle of Miata's. Can't remember if this was the time that Cliff tossed is belt....but think it was. Fist time that Loly and Terri had seen us on the track.
I have some issues with work around that time frame that needs to get resolved before I can commit. + new tires and rotors going on soon.

Got the date circled on my calendar. These Miata folks put on a fun event and they're right there with us on lap times.

Got to scratch the itch at Buttonwillow the first weekend of 09 with some SCCA guys. It was a 'test and tune day' for some really neat equipment and drivers. Would you believe only 17 cars in the paddock all day and all of them faster than snot. Ron (Miata) and I (Mini ) were the slowest on track. (CW #13 configuration @ 2:22) There were times I was by myself lap after lap and other times I was using my mirrors like crazy. Even had an apex stolen in a sweeping right hander. It was a day I'll always remember.

thunderhill 1-18-9

Thunderhill tomorrow with trackmasters. I'll be taking the new race car out for it's first run. For those that don't know I bought Randy Webbs "Mule" off ebay last month. I'll be racing it in the USTCC with NASA this season.
Some picks here http://www.flickr.com/photos/26328383@N06/

NASA is a good group for track days $150 a day, free bbq on sat nite and you get to watch racing in between you track time.
schedule for norcal http://www.nasaproracing.com/schedules/norcal2008.html

Vince,
Good for you....I'd heard that you were going to be running USTCC this year but I couldn't see you stripping down your daily driver for that....
Some pretty cool parts on the Mule and it "was" a pretty fast car at one time. Hope you get it sorted out. Did you already have the trailer? How did you get it out here from Colorado?
I'm hoping to get involved with NASA this year, but in any event.....We'll be there to root you and Jerry on...

Willum, The car came on a new trailer. The second owner, who bought it last year from Randy Webb, bought a new flat bed trailer for it to haul from Colorado to Pheonix. He took very good care of it and updated some stuff. He is taking a job in Australia and didn't want to ship any vehicles.
Yesterday at Thunderhill. First session just took it slow to get used to the handling. Second session started to get a little more aggresive after warming up the tires then got black flagged for noise. apparently I was over the 103db limit. I figured I would be loud since it is a straight 3" pipe. Missed the third session, had an elbow welded on at the track machine shop to point the exhaust away from the sound tester. Went out for the fourth session and was doing well until the engine died. Fuel was down to an 8th tank so maybe sucked up air? Towed back in since it would fire but not run. Filled the tank but still would not idle and seemed to run rough. Called it a day.
Look forward to seeing you and others out at the NASA events.
vince

Sorry that I didn't put the HOD web address in correctly the first time. Here is the correct clickable address. Check-out the Gallery section. There are neat videos in there of what a typical day at the track entails.

Hey guys, there are only three people signed up so far for the autox school on the 28th and Joe and I are two of them. Cliff, are you going to be an instructor?
