Autocross and Track Days

Pending some last minute details it looks like the Solo2 season has be salvaged. A parking lot of lesser size has be offered by Merced County to the Fresno Chapter of the SCCA for this season. This is the old sight used before we were given the big site we all know inside the fence on the then private small plane airport. This site is in the middle of the base and has building in the general area. For details on location and dates go to the SCCA Fresno Chapter website sometime next week.
Hopefully we'll be able to start-up as early as Mar.8-9. I'll post information here as it becomes available.

Buttonwillow will have a good range of instructors sense their foundation is teaching. Reno is for the track rats of Trackmasters with a few coaches for the novices. I've never used the Trackmasters coaching so I can't say how good or bad they are but I do know that HOD always has plenty of good people you can ask for help.
Both tracks are built without the use of many concrete walls so there is plenty of run off area generally. Both have elevation change to make it interesting with Reno having by far the most. Buttonwillow is all man-made so is relatively contrived. Reno is about twice as long so it takes all day to really learn the line with Buttonwillow you'll have it down by lunch. When you throw in travel time ,fuel ,motels and meals even though Buttonwillow costs more it is by far cheaper than Reno. Just some rambling thoughts on the matter.
As of now the wife and I are committed to going to Reno if only to see her sister and husband so I'll probably sign-up for this event. It would be fun to get some newbies to sign-up for Buttonwillow because these guys really do put on the best one day school in the business. It's only about an hour and a half from Fresno so it is a nice one day event where you'll be sleeping in your own bed. Some of the "mod" people should test their rides to see how much (or little) they have added to their Minis performance.
Still sleeping on it.

Haven't got any offical results yet but SM is definitely heating up competitively. A couple guys that ran other classes last year have moved into Street Mod.
Weather and pad were OK but not what we've become accustomed to the last few seasons.
Sat. course was so tight that we ran it in first gear the whole way. Sun. was much more challenging and in second all the way.Think I did well but won't know until the results are posted. Hope you had a great time in Vegas with what I heard was a record breaking number of Crazies In Minis.

Yea, I had work to do.
Feeling good about running with Sacto. Miata people.
Roger on the check-in. As of now it looks like the wife is going to be initiated into both solo2 and track days. She'll come with me Sunday for the second event at Atwater and the Willows goins on Monday. Don't think I can put a helmet on her for an up close and personal but I'm gonna try. Looks like as of now we'll stop in old town Sac for a meal at Frank Fats on Sun. night. It's a tradition with us if we're in the neighborhood.

We will be coming out of Chico, Sunday afternoon (All British car show with REME), so will look for you early Monday morning. Atleast the 2 of them will have someone to chat with while we are out there playing "Joe Bob Racer".
Cool.....initiated Terri to track events yesterday at Infineon NASA/USTCC. Hung out with Jerry (Siddhartha) and Canyon Motorsports + minispeedracer was running TTE....pretty cool watching the MINI's mix it up with other marques. Vince was very quick....2:03 range!! Kinda wished I was out there too! Man, where there a ton of cars there!!

Sounds like you had a great time. Sears Point this time of year............gotta be a great venue.
This is great news about Terri being at the track monday. I had visions of Lolie ( lowly) getting a little bored but now I think she'll have a terrific time.

Hey................I resemble that remark.

Hopefully they will have the usual "parade" laps to give them a sense of what's it like out on the track......
We watched most of the run groups from the hill overlooking turn 2....had a few "off's" in that location. Hard braking and getting light as you come into the right-hander. TV just doesn't do the track justice with the elevation changes.
Would love to run that track some day!!
Just "Git 'r done"

Use to sit in the same area (turn 1&2 ) and saw pretty much the same. Gotta be pretty scary from behind the wheel at 10/10s.
Is Got Guts in the clock-wise direction?
Nope....not sure where I got the idea, according to Ron, we will be running the normal direction.
BTW, you can pick up an extra lunch for Lolie for $10....that's what I did for Terri.
Not sure if it contributed to my understeer problems in wet last time...I discovered that my RF shock was set at full soft and LF was a full turn from soft + running -1.5 front camber. Going to start the day at -2.25 and both shocks set at 1 turn from full soft and almost full stiff on the swaybar. Also, FYI.. a small 6mm 1/4" drive socket will reach in and grab the adjusting nub just fine.
See you there!

Got Guts @ Thunderhill
This is Joe Bob Racer Jr. saying that Lolie (Mrs JB Racer Jr) and I had a terrific time with Willum and his main squeeze Terri at Thunderhill Raceway Park Monday while all of the rest of the world was slaving away............boy am I going to get grief for saying that.
Sunny skies and cool people and temps make a fabulous combo for track days and we had plenty of all the above. Willum had his way with me in the morning but we played tag in the last two sessions of the afternoon. When you do this back and forth driving it's a lot like racing and leaves you giddy when you come back in to talk about the how, where and whens. The grins are all around. "Most fun you can have with your cloths on."
Lost a serpentine belt in the morning but with the help of some really great people I was back on the track after lunch. There always seems to be a sense of community at a track. Maybe that's why it always feels like a special day to remember. I know................... I know............. that sounds pretty sappy but I'm just a sappy guy.
Thanks Terri for coming out to play with JB Racer Sr. If we win with that Lotto ticket it's 50/50.
