Nah. There are some REALLY good drivers that should be there that I'm still getting some coaching from. I'm available to any novice though.

Hey Cliff, how does the instruction part work? Do they sit in the car with me and show me how to do it? I'm wondering if I should get another CG lock for the passenger side? Thanks, Jim

What we've done in the past is set up about five types of courses from skid pads ( large circle to measure cornering G before your car over-steers or under-steers ) to a long slalom that will test you ability to get next to a cone and carry speed. You'll get some in car instruction on Sat. but mostly it's you and what ever course has been set up to teach a particular skill. Sun. will be the day for alot of in car instruction and car and/or driver swapping to see what other drivers do with their cars and maybe yours if it's OK with you. Nothing more sobering than to have a hot shoe take your car and beat your best time by a large margin. This isn't a high speed day like a track day so instructor don't require comparable safety belts or harnesses.

Good lookin' out Chef! Yeah, I get carried away when it comes to my MINI. Normally, I'm tight with money but when it comes to the FPD I like to go with the best. I added up some part cost tonight & "ouch!". Sooooo...I'm going to order the helmet, but I want to make sure the helmet meets the SCCA specs for our event(s). Rating-wise, do y'all know what Snell &/or FIA rating we need to meet? JIMINNImachine you're going halvsies with me right?

Track use helmets have to meet Snell SA 2000 or 2005 standards. Solo 2 ( SCCA )motorcyle helmets can be used. The difference in ratings has to do with what the helmet has to do in an accident. I.E. multipule impacts, fire resistance.
If you want to try on a good helmet you can go to Western Speed and Fuel.

Definitely! I had to park at the top of my driveway again last night to keep from being snowed in and it was still snowing when I left this morning.

So what kind of helmets are best? Open face or full face? And Cliff, are you saying Solo 2 helmets are ok for track events also?

Jim your timing is perfect. Just found out the helmet regs have changed. Sense my computer skills are limited Dr. Steve is going to bale me out by posting a link ( or something ) to the SCCA helmet specs.
Open or closed faced? I got a closed helmet because it was required for Spec Miata racing or any open cockpit cars. Lots of pros and cons for both.

Some basics:

HANS systems don't work with open face.
Some closed face helmets have smaller openings and slightly limit vision.
Closed faced will protect the lower face and allow for a fully closed helmet with a closeable visor.
Etc............Etc...............Etc..........

I would post if I knew what site to go to. The Fresno SCCA site is a forum: http://www.fresnoscca.com and the old site is out of date. Give me an idea where you found the info since I am too busy today to go search.

Ok cool If I don't plan on any open cockpit racing and not even sure what Spec Miata racing is, do you think a open face is adequate for autox and maybe a track day or two?
