For those of you who did RiverRun last year & those who didn't, I just wanted to let you know that there will be a 2009 RiverRun.

Eric Jones was the driving force behind RiverRun. The first one was in 1994 & he did one every year. His plan was to lay out a route on fun back country roads so folks could drive their cars & enjoy them, not just wash & wax them in the driveway. Over the years many folks have taken up the challenge to drive RiverRun & enjoy their cars on some wonderful back country Ohio roads while taking in the scenery.

We lost Eric last August to cancer. I told him I'd keep RiverRun going & that is what I & some of his other friends are going to do. We can use your help too. What can you do? We'd like to see you come out & run with us.

The date is Saturday May 23. This year we will be heading SE to the river on some of Eric's favorite roads.

I'll post more info later along with contact information for those that want to came along.

Will keep it in mind. Sounds like fun and a great way to honor another MINIac. My schedule doesn't allow me to commit right now, but if the stars line up for me, it sounds great!

'River Run' sounds fun, but, what exactly is River Run?

Eric's Riverrun is a 300+ mile, all-day self guided driving tour using some of Ohio’s most interesting and challenging roads. This year we’ll go southeast through the Ohio Power lands to Woodsfield. After a meal at a local diner or a picnic on the riverbank (recommended), we’ll drive souteast along the Ohio River to the historic riverfront town of Marietta. From there we’ll pick up the ever popular SR 555 to Zanesville and end at Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl or Clark's Dining Room at SR 13 in Jacksontown.

Cars leave the Bob Evans at 70 and SR 256, between 8 and 9 am. We should be at the Ohio River around noon and finish by 6 pm., depending on the time spent sightseeing. There is no fixed schedule nor any assigned speeds, other than posted speed limits. This is a tour rather than a rally.

The Buckey Miata Club invites all driving enthusiasts, regardless of vehicle make, model or type, to join us on Eric's Riverrun 2009.

this sounds like a good time to me! whats the group usually like? 5-10-20 cars? What about weather? I assume doesnt matter but you never know...

 

It is a fun time. Last year we had 95 cars of all types doing the tour. Some ran it as groups & some ran solo. All had a great time.

So sorry to hear about Eric. It took me a couple of years to finally make this event last year & all I can say is DON'T MISS IT. I'll pass the word on to the CinciMINIs.

I am stoked to be pre-driving part of the route in a couple of weeks to scout some photo spots with my dad. I remember him scaring me as a kid driving fast on curvy roads... revenge will be mine!

My dad and I plan on going this year, as well as a few other people we know. Is there someone we need to talk to to register or just register at bob evans the morning of?

We would like for people who are coming to preregister. That way we will have a good idea of how many routes & maps to print.
