4th of July 'Mods'

Happy 'belated' 4th of July to everyone!

Just wanted to share some pics of the R50 with the newest mods (well, newest installed mods, since i've had them in the garage for a LONG time...)

This afternoon I finally got around to putting on my Checkered A-panels (think checkmate pkg) as well as my "actual size", Outmotoring, and Apple decals.

The plan for tomorrow is to black-out the chrome slates on the grill and detail the interior...we'll see if that happens!

Needless to say, I'm a fan! Now time to 'upgrade' the bonnet stripes to black pinstriped, add a checkered roof, and who knows what else!

How was the alignment on the A-panels?

Looks nice, and from the distance of the camera, it appears you did an excellent job !

Those white w/black pins or even black w/white pins would really bring the scheme together.

Checkered roof along with the A-panel... MAY be just a bit too much. Maybe you should photoshop it first and see what you think.

Good looking MINI !!

Alingment wasn't that difficult, but I would highly recommend it as a two person job, so u can keep it from moving too much.

Thanks for the advice on checkered over-board! I've been on the fence with the same thought for a while now. Photoshop sounds like a great idea!

Nice job on the mods Rob.

Have you ever thought about getting the front aero grills instead of blacking out your chrome?

Nice work, looks great!

Might want to think about swapping out those orange side marker lights with white ones -- it's a very easy and cheap mod, and I think would blend in well with your design.

^ Good catch, Gil. Yeah, that's a great mod and one of those that takes all of about 3 minutes.

I'm thinking of changing my wheel well reflectors out as well. Although I'm thinking maybe just the front (orange) to white. The ones on the rear wells are red and they blend in pretty well, better than the white ones, I'm sure.

Looks really good Rob! I've always liked the Checkmate look. I agree with Cooper about the aero kit grill vs. blacking on the chrome slats. I would think that you would keep getting stone chips on the slats and be fixing it to keep it looking good.

I really like the look of the slats blacked out in the stock grill. There are lots of aero kit grills out there, but I've only seen one stock grill blacked out. A rare look & oh so inexpensive too.

I prefer the Black-out slats over the aerogrill. The biggest issue, like BAD mentioned, would be possible stone chips. I guess we'll see how annoying that turns out to be!

Hadn't thought about the white turn-indicators. I'll have to look into that. Just on the off-chance... is it legal in Ohio to have those? I thought there was something that said your turn indicators had to be yellow... or are the bulbs yellow/orange?

Yep, the white lens cover comes with an orange bulb. Problem solved.

white side markers with orange bulbs on my R50 for 3+ years now in Ohio ... no problems. Super easy to install and cheap but awesome mod.

is there some form UV protection I should use on my new vinyl check panels?? I'd like to keep them from being faded by the sun.
