Tough times in Richmond

Wow, let us all hope for the best for our fellow motorers in Richmond. They got hit very hard yesterday. Here is a pic from downtown Richmond. Looks like a PS/BL MCS to me. Mike A., is that your car.....Again???

Hey you guys in River City...

We're all hoping none of your MINIs drowned today... I was listening to the news this morning & hoping all was well with you.

Mike A has a roof flag... can't really tell if there's one on that MCS or not... Hope it's not... don't think going swimming does much for a JCW package!

We're thinking of you guys! Best of luck!

Man, that is not a picture of a MCS that I want to see. Hope every one up there is okay! Like you all, I'm sure you guys are hoping that the hurricane doesn't come up this way too. I have no gargage to protect my MCS!

Hope all you guys are doing fine up there! I do feel for you.

Oh my goodness! I guess I need to tune into the news a bit more - I had no idea the weather was so nasty back there!! Cars can always be replaced - people can't - I hope there was no lives taken...Take care all...

Unfortunately, Gaston has claimed the lives of 9 Richmonders thus far. One poor woman was found in her vehicle this morning still clutching the steering wheel. My condolences to her family and the others whose lives were taken.

The damage from this storm rivals that of Isabel. Now, we have to worry about Frances

Hey all -

Thank you very much for your thoughts and prayers   from those of you in the Mid-Atlantic area and Donna/Mike in SoCal . I hope everyone in my area escaped without damage or injury. Last night was one of the worst nights I've ever had in Richmond . It started when part of our grounds (work) flooded and swallowed a new Altima up to the windows, then the closest major intersection I pass through everyday washed out but was passable (albeit at very, very slow speed) but later closed, then it got worse as I headed for home. Everywhere I turned there was water and car-eating swells. I had to re-trace my steps a few times to avoid getting caught. Fortunately by some miracle I found high ground and parked for about 2 hours or so until the majority of the rain moved out and some of the flooding subsided. I was soooooo glad to get home....

Good news however - my MINI is safe and sound after a total 4 hr+ drive home from work. In my neck of the woods, we didn't receive nearly the rain other areas did but we did lose power for about 12 hours until about 10:00am this morning when things powered back up. I am taking one of those I'm-feeling-sick-today-but-am-really-not days .

I think this storm was a lot worse than Isabel.....OK the wind was not as strong but there was a LOT more rain in some parts of town.

minicoopermike - Whew! So glad to see you post and know that you and yours are safe and sound after such an aweful time. Our thoughts are with you and many others in the area. We have some friends in Richmond - I'm getting ready to call and see if I can get in touch with them.....

Glad you all are well!!! I remember when Fran came through here in NC!!! Which bothers me about Frances coming now!!!!! I hate hurricanes!!!!! At least you get enough warning to plan for them, but it doesn't make it any easier to deal with!

Hopefully both of our areas will be spared from Frances...I'll keep my fingers crossed!

It's a sick-of-the-rain day! Enjoy as best you can! So glad to hear you are well... how long is your commute normally? How high was the water you encountered? I've never even seen a flood...

Guess the RCMs meet & greet got rained out. Any news on other local MINI folk? Seth?

We had the RCM meet & greet tonight! The weather was MUCH better and we enjoyed some ice cream from DQs. There were 5 of us that showed up. Didn't get any pics.

If you guys need anything, please PM or call or post. We'll do anything we can to help. And lets keep fingers crossed that Frances barely graces us with her presence.
