Bucks County Propellers & Wings Rally - July 10, 2004!
Greetings,
For those that know us in the PhillyMINI Club, we have a tendency to plan well in advance of our events!!!! Well, it's time to pull together another festive gathering in the hills and valleys of Bucks County, PA!!
For those of you that joined the 63 MINIs/Minis and other assorted vehicles last year, you know that some of the best driving can be found in this area!! Twisties, Covered Bridges, creeks, streams, rivers and lakes!!
Well, this year, it's BIGGER and BOLDER than ever!!
Two of the three originators (Craig, aka Pocket_Rocket and Scott, aka MOI!) are joining forces with ALL of the local BMW clubs in the area to attempt to pull together the largest regional gathering of BMW-built vehicles for what will most certainly be an entertaining event for all!
Details are still in their infancy stages, but note it will be a significantly different format from last year.
So, block your calendars, and Motor into Bucks County for the day (Saturday, July 10, 2004), the week-end, or a lifetime!!!
For those that know our dear friend, HARMINI, we are trying to get her re-engaged for next year's rally again!
Registration details to follow!
Cheers.
Scott

Lee,
Isn't your Land Rover a Ford???
Didn't know it was a BMW??? Or... did they own them for a short period of time???
Hmmmm, why not trade it in for an X5??? Or wait two years for the AWD version of the MINI!!!

>>Interesting..a true BMW owner/rider would be on their way to attending the International Rally July 15 -18..check your calander again
Clay,
You know what they say, you can please some of the people, some of the time...
And, sometimes you can't please some of the people any of the time!
Am well aware of the BMW MOA rally. For those of you heading on your bikes to Spokane, WA, you will miss a fun day in Bucks County! With over 12 different clubs and their various events to work around.
It's also the week AFTER BMW CCA's Okctoberfest in Pasadena, CA.
So... Next year, maybe the dates can work out better, but so far, many of the organizers (representing at least 5 of the various BMW car & bike & MINI clubs) have elected to keep the date this year.
So, anyone NOT attending Spokane is NOT a true BMW rider? Doubt many of the other bikers that are staying local that week would appreciate that!

Hmmm..."limited space at the closing location"..could it be worse than the parking lot that was selected for the ice cream stop/break during Buck's Co' 1st Rally...? Naaa..these cars can fit anywhere..NOT! Oh..by-the-way...the New Hope's finest will be out in force that day as well..if the decision was made to not by-pass that town...
What do you think Bob..you still plan on attending????

We are aware of the BMW MOA and CCA conflicts for those going to the West Coast.
We are keeping the date for the 10th, as MANY people have already RSVP'ed YES, and the venues have been confirmed/paid for.
Should this become an Annual event, we will seek look into the dates for 2005 for potential conflicts.

Hello Everyone,
Well, we've secured our "ending" picnic location! A wonderful private picnic pavillion along the banks of the Delaware River in Washingtons Crossing, NEW JERSEY!
Thanks to Pocket_Rocket!! We also took off a couple weeks ago to begin to coordinate some of the "Observation Clues" and you all are going to have some very interesting sights to explore, and record! The routing will be quite different than last year's Bucks County Covered Bridges rally, but with the same type of enjoyable, twistie roads!
We even found one road (thanks again to Pocket_Rocket's keen eye) that had a sign saying "Caution, Creek Crossing, cross at your own risk"! That's right, a road WITHOUT a bridge! MY-ZOE got totally encased in mud!!! We'll have to see whether the water level's low enough to let MINIs through!!!
We should have a registration site up and running in a couple weeks!
Our ending location can only accomodate 125 vehicles, and with all the other clubs, this could sell-out quickly!
More to follow soon!

Hello Everyone!!!
Well, we had another great meeting of the Organizing Committee this past weekend, and things continue to progress!!!!
We've tentatively set the Registration Fees, which will be posted once we confirm that the cost for the afternoon's Picnic can be covered. There will be a reduced fee for children under 15.
We took another tour of the park location, what a wonderful setting under the tall trees of Washington's Crossing State Park!!! Plenty of picnic tables, a little "kiddie" playground (I expect to see GMINI playing over there!) and PLENTY of parking. There is a nominal fee for access to the park.
We've had an event logo submitted by our illustrious COOPER-SQT which will be emblazoned upon merchandise for purchase!!!!
Finally, we anticipate having the Registration site open for everyone sometime in mid-April, allowing plenty of time to get everyone signed up!
We are limited to 100 vehicles (plus allowances for another 50 bikes!), so make sure you get signed-up early to ensure your space! There are alot of clubs coming to this one, and we have to make sure the MINI gets their fair share of the parking spaces!!!!
More details will be forthcoming!!!
Cheers.

New Meeting Location!
Greetings to Everyone,
Due to the closure of the restaurant that we were going to use to start the Propellers & Wings Rally, the local BMW dealership has gratiously opened their doors to allow us to converge on their Parking Lot!!!
The NEW meting location is as follows:
Thompson BMW
680 N. Main Street
Doylestown, PA 18901
215-340-3900
www.thompsonbmw.com (for driving directions)
The numbers continue to rise!!
There are LOTS of NAMotoring folk that are still procrastinating! As of today, there are very few motorcycles, and lots of Z-series BMWs and classic 2002s!!! It was suggested by one member, that those MINIs that want to Motor together, to make sure you get there by 10:00AM, so you all can go off as a group. We, as the organizers are not attempting to coordinate the group ride, but you certainly can!
Keep an eye on the Yahoo Group site for further details, and we'll try and keep them posted here as well!
www.groups.yahoo.com/group/propellers_and_wings/
For those of you that went to MOT 2004, all I can say is AWESOME! For those of you that missed it, all I can say is, TOO BAD!!!
Cheers.

Final Details!!!
[font=Courier New]Well, it is only 5 days away, and alot of planning and coordination
have gone into making this an exciting driving/riding/motoring event
for all of our various BMW-related familia!!! There are quite a few
procrastinators out there, so we anticipate that the numbers will
jump very quickly this week! Thanks to all of YOU for getting your
registrations in one time!
So, we would like to provide you with a little more guidance for the
day's activities!
Check-in will commence at 9:00AM at Thompson BMW. Coffee and light
refreshments will be available at the dealership. If you care for a
heartier breakfast, there are options nearby.
You have the option of staying for the Driver's Meeting, or taking
off on your own should you want to allow extra time to actually VISIT
some of the stops along the way!
At 10:30AM, we will have an ALL DRIVER'S meeting, to outline the
routing, provide some helpful hints and wish everyone a safe ride!
There is not a coordinated leader of the ride, so those of you that
want to ride/drive together as a group, please coordinate your
departures together! The Observation Run and the Covered Bridge Tour
utilize the same driving directions, but one has the clues, and the
other doesn't! So all of you will be enjoying the same scenery, and
there should be PLENTY of people to follow (assuming they don't get
lost!).
A few recommendations/suggestions/ideas for the run:
1) If you have two-way radios, bring them to talk amongst yourselves!
2) We have scheduled at least 4 bathroom breaks along the journey!
3) Bring beverages/water for the drive. There is 1 stop where you
can purchase items, but it is towards the end of the run.
4) Make sure you fill-up your gas tanks prior to departure. There is
a Gas Station across the street from Thompson BMW.
5) This is a non-timed, non-competition ride. Enjoy the scenery, take
your time, observe the Speed Limits.
6) We took one final dry-run of the route last week-end. With stops
along the way, and driving at average speeds, the drive should take
between 3-3.5 hours. Should you wish to enjoy 1-2 of the stops in
greater detail (Pearl Buck Farm, Bowman's Tower, etc) there is PLENTY
of time to do so!
7) The food at Washington's Crossing State Park will be ready for
everyone between 2:30PM to 3:00PM, and there will be plenty
available, so don't feel the need to SPEED to get to the park early!
8) All Observation Rally participants will need to have their
completed questions/answers back to the Organizing Committee at the
Washington's Crossing State Park by 4:00PM to qualify for the
contest!
9) Directions and routing will be provided upon check-in. If you
have a map of Bucks County, feel free to bring them, but it is not
required.
10) The directions have been printed in large enough font to easily
be read on a tank bag for the motorcyclists!
The future forecast is calling for a hot, yet dry day this coming
Saturday!
To obtain directions to Thompson BMW, please visit their website at
www.thompsonBMW.com.
Have a great week, and see all of you on July 10th!
Cheers.
