Mini owners club for the Baltimore-Washington area
I am interested in forming a Mini owners group for the Baltimore-Washington area. Anyone who is interested should contact me at jbehe@autotruckandrv.com. I am in the auto service industry with 32 years experience in German and British makes. Over the years my business has been heavily involved in all forms of racing and race prep including car fabrication. We are in the process of building a 4000 square foot state of the art shop in Howard Co Maryland that will specialize in the care and feeding of Mini Coopers. This will also serve as our R&D shop where our product and program developement will take place. I would offer this location as a home for this proposed owners group. We currently have a 03 Mini Cooper (non-s) that has been heavily modified and is a test vehicle for the performance products that we are currently working on.
Once again, anyone who is interested in this idea please contact me at jbehe@autotruckandrv.com with your questions and comments.

Welcome Behe...sounds like quite an endeavor. I'm in Frederick and would be interested to see your operation...
In the meantime, there is a group in the DC area that you could check out here: DC Metro MINIs

COOPERation and Donna both told you of the existing DC Metro Mini group.
There are two YAHOO groups that cover the area: The one that that provides a mail list for the DC Metro Mini group and the group that serves the entire mid-Atlantic area from Philly south to Richmond.. There is a lot of cross-posting of items, and the combination covers (my guess) about 300 individuals.
Interested in your planning a Mini-oriented shop in Howard county since that is where I am located (Clarksville). Please pass on some more info on your plans and location.

Sounds perfect to me as well, I live in Howard County (Fulton) not ten minutes from these other HC guys. Literally in my back yard!

Personally I don't think there is enough going on in this area so it would be great to help get things rolling. I come from the Impreza club where in my area we had weekly get togethers and every once in a while we'd have a big get together and several have been sponsered and paid for by local dealerships, tuning shops, or autocross clubs. A few times a year we would have rather large east coast get togethers which sometimes involved autoshows or television stations.
I check this board a lot and topics go unchanged for weeks.
I live in Baltimore by the way and would show up to pretty much any event I can find but since I don't see any coming up I just go on vacation instead.

Sounds good. I tried getting on your Yahoo group back when you first mentioned it to me but it didn't let me. Maybe I have to be invited? Not sure but it wouldn't let me do anything with it so I still can't see what you guys are doing.
Some of the things we did that we could do here is Friday night get togethers after work where we gather at a coffee shop for a while then go out to dinner. Depending on the drive it may need to be confined to a more local crew. But regardless it's a good way to get to know other enthusiasts.

Bunuel - go up on our web site - http://www.dcmetrominis.org - the link to join the Yahoo group is there. You don't have to be invited - just send an email....  And our upcoming event is also listed on the "Upcoming Events' page...

well unofficially some of us meet up in Sterling on Fridays nite, but we're not on a weekly drive/dinner schedule.
the group tends to meet up for one large meeting every month (at least a dozen cars everytime) that lasts for half a day to a full day. so we settle on having one large meet instead of a bunch of little ones
i think the DC group is pretty active, i'm not super busy, but i still miss some of the meets because of other things.

GreatBear and I live up this way, haven't seen or heard anything about a MINI shop in this area since his post. I will add that we do have a very good tuner in our area builder of five Natinal SCCA championship cars they may not have been MINI's but he has done extensive Mods to a friends MCS and is interested in branching out to MINI's.
Email sent to that address bounces back, and the domain is not functional but belongs to:

Yer guess is as good as mine as to what happened.
Sooooo, it looks like I have to clear the garage of all the extra non-MINI crap and start my own place!

I just blind copied you on an email to jbehe.
That's okay we have Ben Shaffer up in Daisy, Md. with a proven track record.

I've been wondering the same thing lately...was it something we said?
