I just got my new 04 CooperS...but I didn't get Lojack or the MINI security alarm.

Can anyone give me advice on what to do with security? Should I just get the standard MINI security alarm? If I go aftermarket, can you recommend a brand and maybe an installer in the DC-metro area?

Many thanks in advance!!

Better yet, had anybody actually had a MINI stollen?

Mini's are supposed to be impossible to hotwire so...

Not stolen just a "smash and grab" for my Radar Detector. The alarm would have done nothing but make noise and I would have slept through it anyhow.

I'm still debating the MINI alarm system...

I think alarms work to the disadvantage of the owner. When my friends or I hear an alarm, the only reaction is hostility toward car and owner. They're noisy and nobody pays attention to them. I don't understand the point of them.

But now I'm curious about stolen MINIs...

I sell the best solution. It is a GPS system that when you park your car you push a button and if the car is moved the system notifies you as to where it is, which way it is going, and how fast it is going. Works world wide and in the USA, Canada, Mexico it gives you the street address. And the thief does not even know it's there. LOJACK is very limited in the areas it works.

If you have any interest send me a PM and I will get back to you.

SOON to be on the iNAV site.

Earl

I had the MINI alarm installed by the dealer when I bought the car, and when I called my insurance company to ask about an alarm discount, they said, the MINI already has very good anti-theft measures, so I didn't get any extra-credit for the the alarm.

Also: if you do get the alarm installed, ask the serviceperson to set it off for you so you know what it sounds like. I've never heard my alarm, and I'm wondering if I would know it's my alarm going off, if it were to go off. Just a thought ...
