NJ/DE CAPE MAY---Fall Foliage and Light House Rally
NJ/DE CAPE MAY---Fall Foliage and Light House Rally
October 12th, 2003
Ok here is the tentative plan and all suggestions are welcome. This is open to all MINI owners and enthusiast.
The Fall Foliage will be at or pretty close to it's peak season so as many twisties as we can find along beautifully coloured motorways will be our route. There are also a few lighthouses connecting our journey along the way for perfect photo ops. A Ferry Ride over into Delaware then venturing up route 9 a long twistie up the coast.
We can start over in New Jersey at the Deptford Mall.
There is plenty of room for us to meet. I figure that is a great place for a meeting point. Easy to find
Feel free to contact either one of us at the following email addies
NJ_DED_GRL@yahoo.com
Tiff_N_Peter@yahoo.com
I also have AIM ... feel free to message me NJDEDGRL

UPDATE: Re: Ferry Ride -- Cape May, NJ to Lewes, De
This is what I've found out. I spoke with a very pleasant woman by the name of Sherri “We are thrilled to have you with us and look forward to seeing all you”.
We can obtain a discount if we can confirm 25+ MINI's. Otherwise we will have to pay the full fair. Also, we have to provide them with our names by the 24th of September. Providing them with your name will guarantee you a spot on the Ferry otherwise, you may not get to hop the ride with rest of us. To provide your name follow the RSVP instruction below Please J
Also, they have been so kind as to hold these spots and allow us to pay upon arrival with no booking reservation fee in advance. Accepting Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Bank Debit Cards or personal checks with proper ID.
Ferry Rules: EVERYONE must have photo ID for this ride. Due to Homeland Security Procedures NO ID…..NO RIDE
Fees:
Full Ferry fee is $38 per car including 1 passenger
Discounted rate (25+ MINI’s) will be $23 per car including 1 passenger
Departure Time: 1PM.
We have to be to the dock due to homeland security issues 45 minutes prior to departure. Again keep in mind these people are excited we are going to venture on their ferry. Arrival between 12:00 and 12:15 for a 1 o’clock departure. The Ferry ride is 1 hour and 15 minutes long.
RSVP Needed:
Please provide your information with one of the options listed below to confirm your reserve space on the Ferry ride.

Hey Guys and Gals!!
Just a friendly reminder that, in order to get the discount for the Ferry Ride from Cape May, NJ to Lewes, DE, we have to pre-register, and Tiffana needs everyone signed up before the 25th of September!!
So, put it in your books, go to the link posted on the previous message, and get ready to take South Jersey and Delaware by storm!!!

What about the option of leaving from Lewes to Cape May. It might seem more logical for the south Jersey/southeastern Pa owners to want to finish-up in south Jersey, versus the 2+ hour ride back from Lewes. Just putting that out there.
Thanks,
Chris

UpDATE for Cape May / Fall Foliage Run Oct 12th
If you haven’t signed up for the Cape May Run Please do so. This
is going to be so much Fun and Beautiful.
Peter and I spent all day yesterday coming the Roads of NJ down to
Cape May. Not that the route is official set yet but 47 is a nice
leisurely drive. Not many twisties but, for the time of year we
will be venturing out it certainly will prove to have the scenic
look we are out to capture and that is the Fall Foliage. We found a
couple spots that we will use for catch up points to gather our
flock, gaggle, litter, school, or what ever it is you call a bunch
of MINI’s back together. We will pass through many small towns
and our first pottie break will be at a McDonald’s that has ample
parking. There is a huge old abandon cement factory in the
background to boot so it could prove a somewhat cool photo op for us.
We found 3 lighthouses along the way. The first one very very cool
and old. Sits on a back road and will be tight but, not a problem
for our MINI’s. We will post some photos that we took yesterday
on our site and I will be sure to share them with all. So at least you all know where we are going. Or have somewhat of a clue. The 2nd Lighthouse was in North Wildwood though under repair this is after all a lighthouse run so we have to stop. They have a beautiful flower garden the beach is right behind it and there is ample road parking right outside the lighthouse. Guess what? There is a McDonalds right around the corner so, another pottie break J Then off to Cape May we go. The Cape May lighthouse is Huge and
Gorgeous. The beach is a just a short walk away, ample parking but,
no potties so you’ll have to wait till we get to the Ferry.
The Cape May Ferry pavilion is gorgeous. There are many amenities
here, bathrooms, restaurant, lounge, and even a mini putting green.
Yes, those of you put put maniacs bring a club and enjoy. Air-
conditioned pavilion tourist information and simply a beautiful
place to sit and relax for our ride across the mini pond (hehehe).
For most of us this will be the first venture on water that our
babies have experienced since the big ride across the big pond. The
Ferry ride will also offer food and beverages.
Remember to RSVP as soon as you can to assure your ride on the
Ferry. Send me an email with your passenger count and your car info

Just don't want to get up @ the crack of dawn on a saturday! haha. Please let me know, and if it sounds reasonable, count us in!

URGENT!!!!!!!
Tiffana just sent out an email to the PhillyMINI group, and she doesn't have access to the Internet from work, but...
She HAS to have ALL of the names of those riding on the Cape May Ferry, in the exact structure that is on their photo ID ASAP!!!
I guess, as part of their Homeland Security issues, they need to know the names in advance for large groups!!!
PLEASE, send an email directly to Tiff at NJ_DED_GRL@yahoo.com immediately with the complete, and matching names of all your passengers, and also indicate who will be driving!!!

Hello Everyone,
Well, it's my turn to put in my .02 cents worth, and for those that know me, I can be very verbose at times.... (ps, as always, I save the best for last, so scroll down if you have Attention Deficit Disorder!).
So, sit back, get a fresh cup 'o joe and enjoy my memories (and per-chance, re-live some of yours!).
First and Foremost - KUDOS, KUDOS, KUDOS to the organizing team of Tiff, Peter, Ron and Vanessa! Little did Tiff know that a little idea over lunch at the "Streets of Philadelphia" Rally would spawn into such a wonderful, and looooong day! So many things in a 10-hour, jam packed day!!!
Second and (what's the second for foremost) - Once again, I concur with Tiff, Ottos ROCKS! And... Joe and Jerry, you'd be proud of Tiff, she drove the entire journey with the sticker-price in the window!! Never stop selling!!
Now, on to a few observations, from the mind (alas, the fingers) of a MINI madman!!
Forecast for showers? Bah Humbug! We threw those raindrops out of the way, and we couldn't have had a better, fall "Indian Summer" day!
Can you say "Officer, I really didn't know I was GOING to be speeding!". Tiff, you charmed the socks off that Trooper, you made another MINI convert! I have the ubiquitous photo!! I have the Trooper's email address! I'll tell him to visit Ottos!! The photo's in my link!
Now, for a few more of the memories:
1) New Jersey actually does have some nice sights! Who'da Thunk!
2) Alan, always the clown!! Can you find him clowning in my photos?
(note, it's not the one labeled under his name!)
3) As my Mother said on the drive home, "There really isn't much in DE". I disagree, the roads were GREAT!
4) Baby Bear wishes she (or is it a he?) was a German Shepherd!
5) Were we in Cape May?
6) Renato's a convert!! Renato's a gentleman for letting Alan drive!
7) Ron & Vanessa - the "First State's" first MINI gathering! Woo Hoo!
DE state Guiness record! More MINIs than registered in the state!
9) Vanessa - it really was an UGLY lighthouse!
10) LOTS of virgins on this trip (more later, keep reading)
11) My mother was actually smiling when I took those "20MPH" turns at 60MPH!
12) Taka - if the New Yorkers at too snooty to have fun like us, MOVE!
13) Paddy - is Bill used for the HOV lanes?
14) Did anyone see the Velvet Red come onto the ferry at the end? They weren't even part of our group! Did anyone tell them about PhillyMINI?
15) ZOE is still panting! She had a hard weekend, put another 900 on the ODO this week-end!
All in all, a wonderful day! This group of Enthusiasts is a joy to Motor with!! We're going to have a hard time finding more fun, more exciting rallies as the years go on! I LOVE A CHALLENGE!
NOW, for the "Virgins" in the crowd, there were numerous Motorists where this was their first group rally!! Welcome!! I have three questions for you to respond to the group:
1) What did you expect before coming, and what are your thoughts now that you've met the "CULT" of PhillyMINI?
2) What do your friends think of your obsession with your MINI?
3) Who will you recruit to join the "CULT"?
Post out! I know of Renato and Taka, and the couple from MD (sorry) but there were other first-timers. Share your thoughts with the group! Help us make future events even more welcoming and enjoyable for folks like you! You're indoctrinated now! Time to recruit!
FINALLY (yeah, he's almost finished!), the ubiquitous photos! Like Peter, I spent 3 hours last night going through 170+ photos. Culling out the bad photos (hey, artistic priveledge), keeping the incriminating ones private for future blackmail and downsizing the images to upload. Now, there's 30+ really nice shots online for everyone to view!
http://www.clubphoto.com, then put in my personal e-mail address (laughscott@aol.com). Scroll through ALL my other MINI and BMW-related photo albums to find the Cape May pics!!! First one to find the "ALAN-cam" photo wins a little prize!!
TIFF, I'll send the photo to the Trooper!
OK, time to work (Boo Hoo).
Remember, there's TONS more MINI Motoring events coming up! Don't forget to register in the Database section, for ANY of the following:
1) Route 125 Run (Jon Fleisher's baby)
2) Birchrunville Dinner (Julie Hoffman's baby, but venue and date changed!)
3) MINI Monday Diner Days (Alan will entertain us in November)
4) Halloween Hayride (Mia & Tracy's idea!)
5) And of course - Our Deck the MINIs Holiday Extravaganza!!!!
Go to http://www.groups.yahoo.com/group/phillymini
HAPPY MOTORING!!

I found the "ALAN-cam" photo. The aerial view from the dry dock. Check phillymini for my posting time. I saw it the first time I looked at them, but I didn't know that there was a prize!
Did I win, did I win?
