For Sale: 2002 Mini Cooper S

I'm listing this for a friend, so please direct questions to him.

2002 Mini Cooper S, $25,500 obo

This is a 2002 Mini Cooper S with exceedingly low miles…just over 16,000. This car has been garage-kept since it was new and has been professionally maintained. This is an extraordinary car loaded with options and upgrades.
This Pure Silver Metallic (optional color package) Mini Cooper S has the supercharged, inter-cooled 1.6-liter overhead cam 16-valve inline four-cylinder engine. This car has the six-speed manual Getrag transmission. It is equipped with four-wheel anti-lock disk brakes, 17-inch chrome alloy wheels, all-season traction control, driver and front passenger airbags, driver/front passenger seat-mounted side-impact airbags, the Advanced Head Protection System, and Xenon High Intensity Discharge Headlights. The interior is in the optional Grey Leather and features the optional Multifunction Steering Wheel with Cruise and Audio Controls, Panoramic Sunroof, and Automatic Air Conditioning.
This is not your ordinary Mini.

This Mini has been equipped with some awesome performance upgrades from Mini Mania that add to the excitement factor when behind the wheel of this automobile. These upgrades are valued at nearly $6000 alone!
A totally fun car in stock form, these upgrades transform this Mini into a slot-car with incredible road handling and acceleration performance. The Quaife differential prevents the all-too-common slipping of the inside front wheel bringing about such road grip that the car literally spurts forward out of corners. Acceleration is incredible with 0-60 MPH in mid to low 6 second range and coupled with the amazing handling, record setting slalom speeds will excite you. You’ll love being behind the wheel. No bully will ever kick sand on this Mini!
Upgrades
  • Mini Mania Stage 2 kit (220 HP) for Mini Cooper S
    • high performance header that retains a catalytic converter
    • a dual BORLA stainless steel, sequential high flow exhaust system
    • a custom cold air intake system
    • three piece supercharger pulley upgrade kit #5
    • mini mania shark injector ECU remapped by Motronic expert Jim Conforti
  • Mini Mania aluminum flywheel for Cooper S
  • Mini Mania Quaife limited slip differential
  • Mini Mania cold air intake system
  • Misc. Accessories
    • factory cup holder
    • glove box organizer
    • grocery bag holder
    • extra 12volt outlet
    • checkered mirror covers.
This is exceptional vehicle has a very distinctive appearance. This is a very individual car with an intrinsic appeal for collectors. The Mini has wonderfully retro styling supplemented by today’s most modern safety and luxury features. This Mini runs and handles beautifully and is in pristine condition. This car has exceedingly low miles and is a great car for a collector, or an everyday driver.

The car is located in Oceanside, CA as part of the Jim Wangers Collection of Automobiles. It is available to be seen and test driven.

The car retains the remainder of its factory 4 year/50,000 mile warranty.

The car is fully-loaded with the Black Panther Leather, the Combo #1 Premium and the Combo #2 Sport packages. It also has LoJack.

The car stickered at $24,700 and carries more $6,000 in options plus the labor to install.

I would like to sell the car...but will not give it away.

Yeah I hear ya about not wanting to give it away. Unfortunately you will lose you a$$ on the mods. $6k may bring 50% of that at resale. And in regards to the factory warranty, to be honest those mods are gonna make the car very difficult to get covered by any MINI dealer, even those who are mod friendly.

KBB lists $19-21k for this car so you figure at most $3k on that for the mods and you may see $23 for it. Honestly though there are lots of other MCS' on the marketplace that are not selling at this price. It just comes down to getting a new one for about the same money. And sure you have to do all the mods, if you want, but the guy who wants to mod is gonna want what he thinks should be done, not what someone else has done. It's gonna be tough, that's all I am saying.

Again, this is a free market, he has all the rights to ask as much as he wants, it is not up to you or other parties to determine if he is going to lose his butt or not. Man, somebody needs to police you guys, because not only stupid you are, rude as well. Are you a buyer? what is the purpose of bashing the guy's car, man?

I agree

What ever happened to the open forum.........

Anyways if someone is trying to sell their mini why are we trying to sell them short.
as any mini buyer or seller still agrees, when it comes down to it when you meet to discuss the car and look at it, thats when the majority of the haggiling occurs. Lets open this discussion to more of what is important than discounting each others' sales.

I ask each mini owner that is selling "why sell" If your mini is really worth the actual value of a new mini prove it, if not show why you are selling, in each aspect we will all be better represented

thanks
mininh

As you said sticker is $24k.. mod=6k, however mod equal to $0 when it come to resale. And you asking for $25k??? are you kidding. I know MINI have a very good reasle value, but it is not the Barret-Jackson... old cars don't inflate the value. IMHO, this is WAY OVER PRICED!!!

Still if the car is overpriced, the owner will find this out soon enough by the lack of offers.

I think he should ask 30K for it and drive all of our used car prices up - we want our cars more valuable, right?

And isn't if great that we can say things on forum that we aren't brave enough to say face to face.{or else our mothers would remind us....If you can't say something nice.....}.

My experience is that it takes less time to order a new MINI than to wait for people to adjust their price to the market. Sellers get offended at what they think are low ball offers, but to me it is offensive when people pump up their old MINI as if it is a rare work of art and ask out of sight prices and then get defensive when you try to discuss it. I replied to an ad a couple of months ago where the price was $10,000 over what was justified by the listed options and asked the guy what it had that made it worth $32,000 for a used MINI. He he got all rude with me and told me I didn't know what I was talking about, but never produced any justification for the price. Two months later he was still listing it way high and our new MINI was here fully optioned for $6,000 less. I think his wife paid for all of those dealer installed special coatings and about $5,000 in dealer markup. Anyway the purpose of the forum is to share information. Some people may not know the value of mods or used MINIs and be taken by glowing descriptions. Why shouldn't people put things in perspective for the benefit of others? I appreciate people posting their opinions. Who needs nice comments? What value do they ad?

It's not pure silver, it's dark silver. Those are two very different MINI colors.

Very nice car and I am a buyer. Unfortunately, the mods don't do it for me and the reason is warranty. For me, a big plus on the preowned market would be the warranty.

How much time is left on the factory warranty? If it's an 02 and this is 06, I'm thinking it's almost out. Even with such low miles, I see this as a risk. Perhaps if you offered an extended warranty option, folks would be more willing to pay your price. Good luck with the sale.

I am in the market to buy a mini as well. For me one of the things I look for is how much warranty is left, how many miles and as much stock as possible. My instinct always tells me that if there are mods, there may have been some racing or at least a bunch of redlining. I am not against mods, I've done my share of mods, but they were to mainly increase fuel economy and if I got extra power that was a plus.
Just like that '05 mcs, with 2,500 miles. I was getting ready to fly to Indiana to get it and drive back to the west coast. Totally stock, all 3 packages for $22k, now thats how to sell a car.

You guys kill me! Yes, the car is Dark Silver Metallic. A friend made the origianl post for me prior to my signing in to the board. I am selling this from a collection and I errored in my ID of the color. The warranty will run out in August. The car has value to the owner and so the price was set as listed.

Your overly aggressive opinions do nothing to educate, on the contrary they degrade the community. But what does any of this matter to you guys anyway. Bash away. Like someone once told me, "Since the invention of the internet and bulletin boards there is less writing on outhouse walls." Well that is the PG version.

The car remains for sale and we remain open to cordial and conversant offers.

Uh, given that you've been here for all of three days, maybe you should become a part of the community before you tell us what's good for it. Thanks for the words of wisdom though.

Is a 'collection' the same as a used car lot?
</snippy comment>
If your client expects to get $25,500, the warranty may well be out by the time you find a suitable buyer. But best of luck to you.

Wrong, all they do IS educate. I see a bunch of MINI people watching out for MINI people.

There are too many folks taking advantage of the MINI's high resale value and trying to make an extra buck off the inexperienced pre-owned buyer. For that, I'm glad these guys are here calling you out.

If anything it STRENGTHENS the community.
