Upgraded 03 MCS...name your price

I'm in Virginia and have had my IB/W MCS up for sale on this board for a while. Was asking $19k, then got it down to $16K.

Haven't really been pushing it, but now I have to get rid of it. In the next couple of weeks, we'll be getting a new family car and I plan to trade my MCS in. Oddly, it seems i can get more from a trade-in than from private sellers. Trade in is $15,700 (without considering the mods i've done to it...see below).

Anyway, if anyone wants a fast MCS, let me know. I'm biased but i think it'll be a great deal for someone.

I'll go as low as $13K to someone on this board (if my trade-in comes in less, I'll sell if for less).

Car details:

2003 MCS IB/W

50K miles

Charcoal/anthracite interior

Sport Package (17" silver S Lites)

No sun roof.

Driving lights (but one has a broken lense)

No nav/climate control

MSFW/Cruise

iPod adapter & custom aluminum bracket on steering column.

Performance:
Mini Mania 15% pulley

Mini Mania Cold Air Intake

NRP stainless exhaust

Mini Mania strut brace

Mini Mania sport springs

New pulley belt

Other:
New windshield

will ad pics in a few minutes.

Thanks. John

Here are some pics. The exhaust pic is for those who aren't familiar with NRP.

Thanks. JR

That IS how you sell a car, by getting realistic about the price. Hang in there and get the new price to as many venues as you can. What does CARMAX offer you for it? If it's enough that is an easy way to go.

thanks for the replies. short bus, yeah, good old richmond, va. Haven't seen yours on the street either, but I'll keep an eye out.

i'm actually going out to carmax in a few minutes (just washed my car).

The plan is to trade it in on a used Nissan Armada for my wife and three kids.

I'll drive some old jalopy from now on.

We'll see what they give me.

thanks. JR

They may be right around wholesale, I got $300 more on my trade on the MINI, but afterwards MINI mgr. said I beat them on the deal, but I just said nothing and figured we were even since he had a $299 "Document Fee".

Well it was $13k on the nose. They weren't crazy about the idea of aftermarket items, but listed everything as excellent condition. go-fast stuff might have hurt me a little on the price, but whatever. I just need to get it over with.

I'll probably keep the strut brace if anyone's interested in it.

Generous offer to trade exhausts, Golden Child, but I think I'll pass.

The Nissan arrives in 7 days, so if anyone wants this car for more than $13K, let me know if you can make it happen in that timeframe.

If anyone local wants my exhaust and has a stock one in good/like new shape. Let me know I'd sell it for, say, $250 (new it was around $800 i think). We could swap them out in my garage.

Thanks. JR

Aww crap... so it's gone? Not sure if it's a good or bad thing that I didn't see this thread yesterday....

I might have been able to come up with $13K... although it would have really been stretching things... your car is more or less exactly what I want in an older MCS. I've been dreaming about it since the last time you posted it a few months ago...

Jayar said, "I'll go as low as $13K to someone on this board".

I pm'ed him with an offer to purchase with cash for that sum. He indicated he would have to have more and left me with impression a lot more. I'm a little confused, maybe I misunderstood, but it appeared clear what his bottom line was. He needed to act fast and I was willing to facilitate his needs.

Just thought everybody needed to know a little about the game this guy is trying to play.

Ok everyone, seems Call needs a lesson in common sense.

I assure you i'm not pulling any crap.

CarMax (five miles from my home) has given me an offer of $13K on my MINI.

Once I got that quote, I posted a follow-up saying,

"If anyone wants to offer me more than $13K, let me know."

Meaning, I already have an offer from the dealer where I'm buying my new car. They'll take care of paying off my loan, and roll the difference into the price of the new car. Nice and easy.

I explained this to Call who had offered me the same $13K.

I didn't give Call a figure, but I was thinking $13,500 would have made it worth the extra hassle. That would still be the cheapest comparable MCS I know of. If he had PM'd me I would have explained this to him.

I've got a wife and three kids who need a bigger car to drive, so I'm reluctantly trading in a car I love. I don't have time to wait around for a guy with a bunch of tacky looking minis to maybe drive from atlanta to give me the same money I can get down the street.

thanks to others who responded. Would have liked for it to go to someone on this board.

call, you sound like a hothead. glad i didn't do business with you.

How does sales tax work where you are?
Here in MA, I get a "freebie" 5% extra discount because I only pay sales tax on the difference between new and trade - so when I traded GBMINI#2 @ 23K, I would have needed a private sale of $24.5K to make it worthwhile.

As you say, the no-hassle of trading in is worth some $$$ too

I don't know about tax really. Guess I should.

The more I think about it, I don't know exactly how to sell to a private buyer since the bank still technically owns my car. Never sold a car I hadn't finished paying for yet. Glad I don't have to deal with it.

Well they are going to have to pay you so you can get a release from the bank. Basically you will sign over the Title and sale of receipt.

Good Luck with the Sale.

When I sold my Audi a few years ago, the bank told me to to have the buyer make the check out to them for the estimated pay-off amount. The buyer gave me an additional check for the difference of the actual sale price. The buyer and I wrote up a quick "Bill of Sale" so he at least had something while driving the car from PA to UT. Once the lien cleared with the bank, the state mailed the title to me and I signed it and sent it via registered mail to the buyer.

That turned out to be only the beginning of our nightmare with that car (long story), but the actual sale part went smoothly. The bank even sent me a small refund check for money in excess of the final pay-off amount.

Call your bank, they'll tell you what to do.

The car is spoken for $22,999.99. Kidding. $13,500.

thanks for your interest!

If anyone is interested in the exhaust or strut brace, PM me after tomorrow and I'll know whether I'm free to sell those items.

If so, the exhaust would be $250 + your stock exhaust (local pickup/swap only). The strut brace would be $50 + shipping.

In all likelihood, these items will be sold with the car, though.

Thanks. JR

First of all, I'm glad things worked out for you, I really do; especially for someone in the MINI family. And, I think someone got a great deal on your MINI. Doesn't sound like a "hot head" does it?

However, the way things usually work when you are trying to sale something is the seller indicates what he would like to get and the potential buyer makes an offer. The seller then either takes the offer or counters with a new offer. I made you a legitimate offer, didnt' try to low ball, at the amount you said would be the lowest. Your email indicated your rejection of my offer but you never countered. I didn't have a figure from you to counter.

Your post here indicates,"I don't have time to wait around for guy with a bunch of tacky looking minis to maybe drive from atlanta (sic) to give me the same money I can get down the street. I indicated I had the cash and was ready to close the deal. That I would drive up and pick the car up and pay you cash. That transaction could have taken place in one day. You wouldn't have been waiting on me.

Now, all of this is over the bridge. It's done. You got what you needed and someone go a great deal. I just have one question...why did you feel you needed to attack the way my minis (sic) looked? I have had personal relationships with several thousand MINI owners and not once have I heard a single MINI owner trash how another MINI owner's car looks. You have the right to say anything you wish, I respect that. But I think we know who the "hot head" is here. I forgive you...God Bless you...I wish you and your family the very best. Betty and Paris send their best wishes

Thats funny. I was just admiring the way your Silver Mini looked before I read your post! The black one is cool too, but, the silver is definitely on top.
