Looking for a set of lightweight 15" wheels for autocross use on my 2003 MCS. If I can't find anything used, I'll probably go with Kosei K1's and Kumho Victoracers. More money than I want to spend for as little autocrossing as I do. Anyone selling their 15" R-81 wheels? Or any other non-runflat OEM 15" wheels? Let me know. JR

What organization/class are you planning to race in? G-Stock SCCA dictates close-to-stock size/offset 16x6.5 or 17x7.

I'm running in Street Mod because of the pulley, so I'm safe, I think. I believe SM allows for R compound tires. If not, I'll run in a class that does. I'm not that great a driver. I just want to go faster than I do on street tires. But to answer your question, I race with VA Motor Sport Club under SCCA Solo II rules. Thanks. JR

I used to run with VMSC. If you are in SM why restrict yourself to stock 15s. I am sure you can find some 15x7 or 8 K1s almost as cheap as you can get used stock (5.5). Check miata.net and ebay. Good luck, and you really need to make the drive to Va Beach to race at ACU-4, great grippy concrete.

Chris: I agree, I'd much rather get the Kosei K1's. As usual, cost is the factor here. I figured if I can get someone's unwanted stockers for cheap, it would go over better with my wife. But only if they're a lot cheaper than the Koseis. By the way, is ACU-4 the same as Fentress? If so, I raced there five or six years ago in my old Scirocco. Lots of fun for sure. Hopefully, I'll make it down to Tidewater soon. Thanks. JR

Fentress is a gravel rally compared to ACU. ACU is the "boat ramp" that the LCAC (landing craft air cusshioned) use to launch. There is not a loose rock, bolt or cigarette butt anywhere. Check with TSCC, or Old Dominion Region SCCA. Also if you want a fast ride, let Ed Raymundo (Ed94R on NAM) drive your MCS .

Since you're running in SM, you can run about any wheels.

If you want to go on a budget, I'd see what you can find at a junkyard. Maybe try to find some used VW wheels? VW sold a lot of cars with 14X6 wheels and a 4X100 bolt pattern, which can hold 205/55/14's or maybe even some 225's. It's possible to find used 14" VW wheels for $100/set. I think VW also had some OEM 15X6.5 wheels with the same bolt pattern, but they might be a little bit harder to find. BMW also used 4X100 14X6 wheels for many years on the E30 cars.

Honda made a lot of cars with 15X6 wheels and a 4X100 bolt pattern, but these probably won't be as cheap or easy to find as VW wheels. Mazda also used a lot of 4X100 wheels.

The offsets may very a little bit, but as long as the wheel and tire clear the suspension, you're cool if you're in SM.

As long as you don't care about cosmetics for your autocross wheels, you shouldn't have to spend much more that $150 for a set of wheels.

Thanks for the info. I'll check around. I used to have VW wheels out the wazoo when I had my old Scirocco. Wish I had one lying around for fitment purposes. The idea of the K1's is growing on me now, though. I'll probably just do that. I want it to look somewhat cool at the autox. Thanks. JR
