JCW GarageInterested in John Cooper Works (JCW) parts for your 1st Generation MINI? This is where JCW upgrades and accessories for the Cooper (R50), Cabrio (R52), and Cooper S (R53) MINIs are discussed.
it's a Sparco designed seat I think with lumbar support. I also like how they match to the JCW leather dash and tubes. I am not sure if an upholstery shop can make them.
but that doesn't mean you can't buy them in another contry. I wanted the BMW/Mini car seat, and had someone buy it when they were in Europe. If you don't have friends that can do that for you, you may want to post on Mini2 asking for help. But it won't be cheap! Seats + Shipping + Import Duties....
The JCW seats are Recaros. $$ is the killer, I'd almost say (as I've loked into this a few times) go find racing seats you think are comfprtable, reaposlter and call it even; then you can even get ones that are FIA approved too!!(Good if you plan on racing, its a growing standard)
How can I get JCW sport seats in the USA?
Thank you in advance!
Nothing is unavailable to us in this world of the internet as long as you are willing to pay for the right to be the only one on the block with the new wizz-bang gizmo, I know my MasterCard his not stopped smoking since I bought my MCS. :impatient
I thought it was the lack of them being legal in the US due to airbags?
$$ is the killer to the individual; they don't have weight sensors for airbags, which I believe would have been required for US sales; MINI was willing to do it; until they looked at the cost sales assesment and realized they'd lose money on it, and would be able to sell enough in the US to recoup their loses. Remember its only the dozen or so of us enthusisasts that want these; it can be done, but I have realized there are just more cost effective ways of going about it than trying to import the finished product.
It is due to the airbag sensor. They passed that in 04 i think, so that all cars in us that are 05 or newer that have side airbags must have seat weight sensor crap and if it has hid's i thas to autolevel and clean and w/e...
also it is illegal to put HID's on car's that did not come with hid's or soemthing..some bimmer people got in trouble for this =/
I think the wieght sensor keeps the front airbag from firing if someone is leaning forward in the seat. But I could be wrong here.
Matt
Well yes and no; it lights up if your passneger is under a certain weight, I knwo some people that are so light if they just shift their weight they'll actually shut off the airbag; the goal is to prevent the kids from getting killed by airbags that are too powerful; yet another device to prevent darwinism.
as soon as you lean forward, it comes on. HAven't checked the mini specifically though.
Also, if you do get a set and install them, you'll have to "fake it" to the SRS controller to think that the wieght sensor is present and happy, and that the air bag is in. But I think it's just one resistor per seat......

My laptop sets it off all the time, I also set it off if I rest my hand on the seat at a stoplight.

No code, no light, no problem; aftermarket seats are legal, just uhh well the insurance company doesn't always agree with you having a seat that is also intended for the race track.
OK! It seams there is a lot headache. I will probably go with English Leather. I am not a big fan of leather seats, however I can't find any other combination that fits good (JCW Leather Dash/Tubes with anthracite). What do you think?
The JCW GP seats are Recaros, the JCW seats are a re-upholstered Sparco Milano Prestige
I've always read and been told that they were the same seats JCW and GP and that they we're Recaro's whats your source?
MINIyegor- have you seen the Black Panther Leatherette in Person; I'm yet to have a passnger know they aren't leather and go very well with my anthricite dash. If you want the JCWs for feel/comfort or safety I do recommend going with and aftermarket seat and possible reapolster; in which case don't bother spending the extra $$ on leather seats that are going to come out.
