JCW Tuning Numbers

Does anyone know if there is a registry for JCW tuning kits and owners?

I'm curious where abouts all the factory kits are going and what the earliest factory installed number was for 06 model year. I know they announced they had produced the 10,000 kit a while back just prior to the factory purchasing in 06' - it would be neat to have #10,000

JCW tuning #S10284 in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada

Please post your number and whereabouts...

There isnt and thats a BAD idea. Someone started doing that on MINI2 and the complaints started to flow. The issue is that you cant get JCW parts without the TC #. PPL take them off of eBay all the time but if you keep going back to the same dealer and found someone used your number 100 times ... something aint right.

Hmm...I don't see how that makes a difference- since JCW kits are produced in order starting from number 1 onward. Thereby if I needed the kit number to order performace parts I could just choose any number from 1-11,000. When selling or looking to purchase a Porsche even the VIN number is included in the Porsche certified classified for "carfax" purposes etc. If someone uses my number and it's a fake big deal - I am the one with the certificate of authenticity from John Cooper Works. Besides - since my kits is factory installed I am sure they have the matching VIN number of my car to the kit.

On another note FYI I asked John Cooper works the total number of kits produced to date and the number of the first one factory installed....response:

"Dear

Thank you for your enquiry and I'm glad to hear you are pleased with your JCW Mini. The 1 st factory fitted tuning kit was built for a customer order was S10247 although a few prototypes and press cars were built prior to this. The total number of kits we have supplied or built to date is 11126. This includes both the original 200bhp kit and the latest 210bhp kit (factory built and aftermarket)."

You missed the point so I'll try to clarify. "they" started to do this on MINI2 until they wised up.

Suppose I want a part but no kit number. I use yours. Tomorrow Joe uses yours etc. Then Bill the Discount house uses yours on a thousand orders. Their "computer" is going to see a huge number of orders for a certain JCW part from YOU and wonder dearly what it is your doing since the parts are "supposed" to be exclusive to your kit number

Do a search on MINI2 and look it up. I am just relating what i read. Besides, with 10K kits out there you will be lucky to find 100 ppl willing to respond, IMHO

JCW Registry

I myself still do not see chows4us' point. Who cares if a million other people have parts that were specifically designed for my particular car. BMW certainly doesn't care as long as they get the money and don't have to worry about the warranty issues (and they won't have to since the 'bogus' JCW installation is not properly registered to a corresponding VIN). Sunbeam Tigers were indepedently registered in a similar manner using the VIN numbers. (See the 'Book of Norman') Care was taken not to publish the corresponding engine numbers to make it more difficult to counterfeit Alpines into Tigers.

So as long as the VIN number is not a part of the JCW registry, I would be all in favor of creating a public registry. In fact it appears that on this short thread alone we already have 5 numbers for that registry. Such a registry would certainly help to create a bond among the JCW owners as it did for Tiger owners.

About 35% of the 7500 Tigers built were eventually fully documented on the registry over the past 40 years.

I think the same thing came up with MC40's.

Reportedly, the dealers won't sell you things like the special Monte Carlo stickers unless you have the right VIN number

That's a GR8 Tag you got there. I may have to give that a try here in MD.

I run the back one right side up . . . Have had a bunch of people come up and ask me what "INIW" means . . . I just have 'em go look at the front.

If it's taken in MD, go for 3W INIW. That was my second choice.

The thread was on MINI2. The "owners" were concerned that when "they", as in the "owner" went to buy something, MINI would not let them because they had "abused" the system.

That is a different issue. They tie the VINs to the special parts. No VIN, no part. In other words, for example, if you wanted the red leather seats you cant get them (of course, unless you pull a VIN from eBay) Its not the same market.

I know I'm just a Newbie to the scene but am really passionate about my new car. I would very much like to start this registry and find all of "Zeus"s brothers (factory fitted JWC) and cousins (aftermarket JWC). I have looked at the Blue Marble site and think what they are doing is fantastic! IT would be great to have something for the 11,000 JWC kits too

I honestly see no problem posting my number - and thank you to the others who are interested in getting this started too.

Yeah, that plate's an old favorite... I even remember seeing it listed in Parade magazine many years ago when they featured interesting plates from around the country.

I have lived in DC, MD and VA, and each time I looked into maybe getting that plate... but it was already taken in each case. I ended up getting "EDGE" (on my Mustang, which I still have).

You're lucky you got that plate - it's a classic!

OK guys, here it is! Go to http://home.comcast.net/~jcw-registry/ if you're interested in getting a formal registry going. In a couple of days, you'll be able access the registry at www.jcw-registry.org. It's a crude effort for now, but I'll spruce it up as we go along. SPUD is now listed.
