And whose idea was A4 paper anyway? It doesn't fit anything . . .
11 x 14 might fit and just cut out the paper mat that was meant for the 8 x 10. It might not be exact but so what, its only a piece of crappy paper going in there. I bet you can find a $1 plastic frame at a dollar shop

Good idea, back to the Dollar Store tomorrow. Sometimes the Dollar Tree has WOOD frames for a buck.

"Price check on aisle 3 . . . "

"IT'S A DOLLAR!"

Last week they had big bags of butter mints for - you guessed it - a dollar.

The sad part is your sticking a $6200 piece of paper into a $1 frame.

Wouldnt it be better to go to a framing store and get something, in Mahogony, suitable for placing over the fireplace and kept for like 300 years to show the generations over time?

Why sad? It was my $5900 . . . I kept waiting for you to chip-in and day after day - nothing. So I just bought it myself.

Hang on! Rumor has it that JCW will be releasing a completely crappy carbon fiber certificate frame in early 2006. Pricing has not been confirmed, but should be right around $US200.

Uh... well considering that the JCW kit is made in the UK... and they don't use the American sizes... I'd say that the fact the certificate is A4 size makes perfect sense.

Well, if that's the only size available at the Staples in West Sussex, I guess we'll let it slide.

Yes, but my G-2 has it that for $200 the frame will be built with morphing capabilities such that it will discriminate between A4 and 8 1/2 X 11, and adjust itself to the paper! All whilst not showing up on radar! Smashing!

I just found this thread and want to join Team Craptastic. I added the rare Just Crap Works Tuning Kit to my MC (non S) in October. Now to get my JCW certificate (No. 475) framed...

Will there be a Team Craptastic meet and run at the Dragon?

James

Chows4us:

You must keep in mind that if you are going to spend the $6,200.00 on the kit, why not spend the extra two bills on a frame? You must ask yourself -WWJCD?

Also, the official JCW carbon fiber frame is undoubtably smoother and more refined than this aftermarket mahogany frame you speak of. Additionally, the frame is pedigreed and will further enhance the resale value of your JCW Mini in 10 years at the Barrett-Jackson Auction.

Another selling point, if the mahogany frame breaks, do you really expect your local Mini service department to fix it? I think not, my naive but well-meaning friend.

I totally agree but if you look at the sequence of posts, I only found out about the CF frame two post after mine! Now that I Know, obviously CF is the only way to go.

BTW, a 17 x 13" wood frame with 8 x 10" mat works perfectly.

AND, if its heading to Barret-Jackson, they you know they want ALL the original paperwork. SO....
  1. The original Bill of Sale should be, at a minimum, laminated
  2. The original thingie that goes in the window (Not the real one that you tore off but the second copy that comes with the paperwork ALSO must be framed. But, alas, unless you can find an official MINI frame, its going to have to be aftermarket

My bad - I should have notice that. Obviously this "new" JCW frame is a welcome but unexpected surprise. I appreciate you coming clean and admitting that you gave bad advice!

As if a real member of Team Craptastic would even think of putting his Certificate of Authenticity in a knock-off frame.............

But you know, I'm still thinking documentation. Without that Bill of Sale, there is no providence

Merry Christmas Chowser!

Well, after exploring the provenance of Percy-Bob, and his related documentation, I have decided to practice for my some-day trip to Barrett Jackson . . . When they open the boot, this is what will greet them!

Still haven't found the composite frame in the scarce A-4, but it's only a matter of time.

Nice! In 50 years, all that stuff will actually add a huge amount to the value of the car. Until then, you will have to endure the slings and arrows of the jealous and mean-spirited modders.

Ah, but we have identified the grail, the sought after, the object of our lust, that which will make us whole.

The mythical carbon fibre picture frame in the A-4 size.

I now have something to look for whilst rummaging about at swap meets. I feel much like Steve Martin today, as I finally have a special purpose.

Uncle_John, I recognize the JCW certificate (in A4 size), but what is the other certificate/letter?

Ah hA! The much sought after and quite rare certificate that came with the 210 upgrade kit. Mine was one of the original kits without the unobtanium injectors and air box . . . and I did the upgrade about a year ago. That's where I got the most cool JCW genuine cardboard box that is now home to my meager collection of all things MINI including the 2004 MINI Press Kit from the Detroit Auto Show.
