When does the digital/LCD guage come out for the JCW models?
I vaguely recall reading it was to be available in March or April for the 2020 model cars. Obviously that has changed with Mini stopping production now. So the 2021 models may be delayed as well right? Just checking to see if anyone knows about the new gauges (which are very cool).
Curious myself, my wife put in an order for a 2020 JCW on 2/1/2020, and got put on a ship last week but the VIN shows it as a 2021 actually......so curious if it has the old cluster or the new. Won't be in Hawaii until who knows how long, June or July though so others will get theirs first.
My understanding is the new digital cluster is "2021" model year, so for all the talk about "march" production what really matters is having a "2021" build.
If course that's currently a bit moot as I believe production is still stopped.
That will absolutely be able to be retrofitted, just like BMW and their new digital speedos. There are a couple places in Europe that were able to accomplish it, but with production stopped, no one else has been able to get their hands on these parts.
I am thinking about another JCW and for me , it would be worth it to wait for that gauge cluster. The tach on my JCW was useless and I hated the heads up gauge on the dash. It's too bad they can't go back to the R56 tach.

Reason: change

I've never been a fan of the F56 gauge layout, especially the tachometer design/location. But, that being said, I am not a fan of the digital gauges generally despite everything seeming to be going that way. Our R60 Countryman S All4 has a great speedometer in the center pod (no backup camera or Nav...yay!)...and the tach is "straight on" and that is what I drive with most of the time! Old school is just cool! Sorry! MINI is getting too far away from its roots imo! They could try harder to make the digital gauges look more classic...they just aren't getting it done.
My current car, a 718 Cayman, has the Tach as the focal point with the digital speedo, just like the r56s.The tach is analog and the speedo is digital. I like the GP3 layout because ,at my age, I look through the steering to see data ( speed, tach, etc.. It's all right there in that screen in the GP3.

I agree the tachometer should have been kept in the center with digital MPH in the center like Gen 2.
In my opinion, this set up is badly designed. Who need a gas gauge that takes half of the entire display? Half of it should have been used for an oil pressure or at least a temp gauge.
Definitely no Mini in my future as far as it goes about design.
Yeah my Gen2 speedo is better I agree with dube53. Having the right half of the display all gas gauge is dumb (how often to you need to see that?). I'm leaning toward waiting the to see the redesigned Acura TLX later this year as my replacement for my 6 year old JCW Coupe.
