Lighting Cable Adapter/iPhone issues

I've been using the Lighting Cable Adapter, BMW p/n 61122408012 with my iPhone 6 without incident for about 2 years but recently it ceased to work. I suspect it's because Apple pushed a new iOS release and somehow this got lost in the mix.

Anyone else have similar issue? Workaround?

I have used mine in the past ok, did you restart your phone? If that does not work, you might need a flash update at the dealership.

Thanks and I'll re-boot the phone (again) and if that doesn't work will take it to the dealer. When they "flash" what exactly are they flashing, the unit or my car?

Main software update. It will cover the media and stereo also. I would ask them to see what the flash you have and see if there is an update first. They can pull that up for you with a quick stop at the dealer. Most of the time a main flash fixes it.

Thanks for the link and my problem is similar to this earlier post from Dube53:
"Sorry for the confusion. I use an Iphone 7 with no SIMS card connected to the Y cable for music only. The problem seems to be the software doesn't recognize the cable anymore."

Mine's an iPhone 6 and I'll check for the charging issue & clean the ports but seem to think it's due to a software update by Apple as everything else seems to be OK.

Which specific iOS update are you referring to? I seriously doubt it's a software issue. Could you try different phone with the same iOS?

Unfortunately, the problem is back after everything was fine for 2 weeks. Both ports (USB and Audio) in the car are OK because I can use a Bluetooth device for audio.

I am also believing the issue may be with Apple. This morning, I reboot the Iphone 7 I use as an Ipod and it was fine. In the afternoon, the connection was gone again.

I have to agree with Dube53 as I've done all the checks & cleaning and it's still not connecting (however it's charging). I swear it's an Apple iOS issue because it was working fine one day and then "kaput" the next. I haven't tried another iPhone (wife's on Android) yet.

I use an Iphone X for communication and the problem is the same. What brings me even further to believe this is an Apple issue is sometimes it works fine with the Iphone 7 and not at all with Iphone X.

What also complicates it for me is that I have a Manic tune by Mario and when I asked him what would happen if the dealer flashed the car he felt I'd loose the tune- so no way that's happening. Crikey, I may have to go buy CDs after I gave mine away to shift to iTunes :(...

OK so I switched out the regular official Apple Lightning cable for another one for my iPhone 6S and LO!, it reads iPod on the display HOWEVER when I go to activate it there's an error message that says the cable isn't supported. Sooooo, I grabbed an old iPod with the larger cable port, inserted that and got the same error message.

ARGH! All this would be academic if we were in the '70s with great FM radio stations, not the dreck that's playing now.

fwiw I always had problems with my iPhone X. Basically it would show the track info on the mini display, but the audio would keep coming from the phone. When I eventually bought a ProClip mount I just put a data isolator between the usb port and the lightning cable. That way I can still get power to my phone, and just stream audio over bluetooth.

Success!

The new updated version iOS 13.3 seems to fix this problem.
