Talking JCW Pro Exhaust Upgrade on JCW

Greetings! I have a 2017 JCW with the stock exhaust. My car is currently at the dealer getting the Pro exhaust upgrade, which usually comes with the JCW tuning kit. After listening to several exhausts, I kept coming back to the JCW Pro. I know a couple of MINI folks in the local club that have the Cooper S with JCS tuning kit and am familiar with how it sounds. While it will only have a negligible impact on performance, which I'm sure will get me lots of side eyes, I'm looking forward to that new purr. For reference, the parts were at about $1000 with about 4-5 hours of labor. Will get lots of snaps, crackles, and pops! Just wanted to share for anyone who might be interested. Cheers!

P.S. I don't know a whole lot about cars but I know I love my MINI!

I almost kept my stock JCW Bluetooth Exhaust but I got tired of having to "hit the button" all the time to open the valve. It sounded great when open so in my mind it is a great idea to just have the exhaust open all the time. In Green Mode or Mid Range Mode it doesn't pop or gurgle and then does in Sport Mode. I decided to go full on bigger pipes with the NM Eng Exhaust for race purposes and love it...Otherwise I would have opened the valve and then unplugged the wiring to the valve and leave it open. If anyone wants a 2019 JCW Exhaust with 3000 miles on it...I am selling the one I have for ~$500 OBO (reasonable) 210-723-2328 (Text Me if interested).Top pic is JCW...Bottom Pic is NM

The performance impact of the JCW pro exhaust is actually pretty significant. You will see close to an extra 20 ft lbs of torque under portions of the power curve with the flap open.

Other than the blue tooth issue in heavy traffic with all the non drivers using their blue tooth stuff it is great. I have never had an issue with the exhaust closing on twisty back roads. It has been flawless for 4 years.

That's really good to know! A trusted MINI source mentioned that I should have gone with a Remus because it has 4 settings and the JCW Pro has had electrical issues. I'm happy with what I've got.

Wow, thanks! I was told that since I already had the JCW, the Pro exhaust wouldn't do much for me. Except the melodious pop-pops.

There's a lot of info on here about the flap closing issue:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...o-exhaust.html

If yours was a recent purchase, it's probably one of the corrected versions. If you got one that closes, take it back until they set it straight. If you bought it secondhand, or otherwise would like to hardwire a switch, see here:

Just thought I would add that there is apparently a different model number for the 2020 JCW 2 Door Hardtop models. The local dealership here is trying to figure out which one is for the 2020 model.

I don't believe there is one for the 2020.
Hence he blowout price for the kit up to 2019,

Picking up my 2020 JCW this weekend and tried to have the dealer install the exhaust. No go. Only bummer so far. I love the performance exhaust on my 19 JCW and will miss it a lot. I don’t really want to go aftermarket either. I wonder if Mini will release a system for 2020 models?

Not likely, that would mean producing them only for the US market. As EU now requires particulate filters on gasoline models.

Yep, agree. I have a 19 MB C63S and MB neutered the sound quite a bit because of EU noise regs. and GPF although GPF is not purportedly in US market 19 C63s. Aftermarket is looking like the only way to achieve better sound...

I am going to be the 2020 JCW HT test case. My dealer says the existing JCW Pro exhaust will work on my new car. Installing tomorrow and will report back.

SO if I understand the B48 kit is only the exhaust $1,247.00 installed, and the B46 kit is the exhaust WITH tune $2,080.00 installed?
Hence the price being half for the B48?

Any word on this? I am in a holding pattern with my 2020 JCW as well waiting for the new version of the exhaust.

I had the Pro exhaust installed before delivery. Master tech. said it bolted on identically to pre-2020 cars. Bluetooth control works fine. Sounds much better than the standard exhaust. A few observations:

1) Mini has definitely changed the tune on the 20s compared to my 19. No more crazy pops and bangs standard with the pro exhaust. I consistently get some on overrun (still in break in so I suspect it will get better the higher it revs) when in sport mode plus sport transmission mode and it sounds fantastic with good quick upshifts. I actually prefer less pops/bangs. It was sometimes too much on my 19.

2) In mid and normal transmission mode, it’s just meh open but the same can be said of the pre 2020 pro exhaust.

3) in mid mode and sport transmission, it sounds good but not as good as the sport/sport combo.

4) pretty sure the engine is happy and I will see the small power gains we saw on pre 2020 cars with the pro exhaust.

5) I looked at my build sheet and noticed the motor is now the B46D, not the B48. Both units put out similar power but the B46 is more emissions friendly and this likely explains why the pops and bangs are greatly disminished.

All in all, I like the pro exhaust on my new car and it does make It more fun to drive (in the right modes). Oh, also, no CELs or weird issues have occurred either FWIW. I wouldn’t bet money Mini is going to do a new Pro exhaust for the 2020s-on. I am not sure what they could do differently to the physical system. I think the state of engine tune is the determinant. Hope this helps.

The Pro exhaust adds 8 hp, at least it did on mine.

What dealership was this so I can have my dealership reach out? I have been waiting for them to get word from MINI about the model that will fit my 2020.

1247 installed seems too cheap...

I got mine at a killer sale for $870 with the chrome tips, which are sold seperately. @ retail it would have been 2k + install.

It took me 3 hrs to put it together with a buddy... it isn't a bad job if you have patience.

There will be none !

using the pro exhaust since 4 years, on the track its opens via bluetooth perfect, it creates 17hp more on the Dyno.

installed on a 2014 Cooper S the original Cooper S exhaust tips can be used.

I never ever had a problem. I believe it is all in the install which in mine was done by one of the greatest Mini Mechanic. [Dealer].

Pair it with a Cold Air Intake [AWE in my case] and you will get the results as I have. More air out needs more air in... Add an NM Power Module, a total 10 minute plug in, and you will feel a brand new car even on the Low Octane setting. Many drive with the 100 Octane setting even while using 93 O but the JCW already has a higher boost than the CS and personally also 90% of my driving is at 7000+ feet. You will be close to 300hp... and it is a rush I must say even at 74!!! [if not now, when?]

Good luck... you will be fine.

I might add that hitting that Bluetooth remote a couple quick times, well, I find it of no effort whatsoever.

The install is very straight forward, it will either work or not, it doesn't have anything groundbreaking. Just a module that gets its power from the fuse box. And an actuator for the flap. that is wired in really straight forward fashion under the toolkit.

If I had to do it again, I think the entire thing can be done in <1hr with a lift and tools.
