JCW Dinan Elite Installed
I'm one of these "isolate all the variables" kinda guys.
I recall that some folks had problems with their cars throwing codes and some obscure sensor was replaced and the codes went away. One theory was that, without the Dinan attached and operating, the bad sensor didn't react, but, when the Dinan was doing its thing, the engine dynamics were altered just enough to cause the defective sensor to throw codes.
My money is betting the Dinan is, in fact, the issue. But it would be interesting to have the dealer take a hard look, just to make sure the Dinan isn't teasing out a deeper issue within the car's systems....
And, given the "Dinan Guarantee," there shouldn't be a problem with taking the car to the dealer with the Dinan Elite installed. Of course, I'd get something in writing via email from Dinan -- maybe write them an email saying, "How do you feel about, as a next step, I take my car to the dealer with the Dinan installed just to confirm there is nothing going on with the MINI systems?"
But, whatever the ultimate cause, this nightmare shouldn't be happening with a Dinan, and Dinan should be stepping up and honoring their much-hyped promise to work with MINI to resolve any issues resulting from the interaction between their product and the cars into which they are installed.
There's got to be someone at Dinan who will take ownership of this issue and who will work to get it resolved. They're still advertising and shipping Elites. If they know the product is bad, why would they take such a liability risk???
There's more to this story. Just sayin'.

It seems really annoying for many that this "warranty" aspect changes from Dealer to Dealer.
I have the NM Engineering PM installed since just about purchase and now with flawless 30K [2018 JCW ~ instant surge of power right away BTW] my Dealer/Mechanic never wanted me to remove it if necessary. He will remove it if needed and reinstall it. Which of course I like! No void warranty ever...

This is really distressing news. Assuming there is no sensor malfunction within your MINI (not Dinan software or hardware), then your story is an indication of how far Dinan has drifted from where they used to be.
Three years ago I had a ton of questions prior to plugging in a Dinan Sport. I got written responses to my long list of questions and I had a couple of conversations with a tech at Dinan who was extremely knowledgeable and very reassuring (Dinan was still in Northern California at the time).
We used to get product updates and responses from Dinan to questions posted on NAM.
The notion that "we know there's an issue with our firmware but can't tell you what we're gonna do about it or when," is not exactly the response we want to see from a company that built its reputation on providing top flight tuner tech for BMW enthusiasts.
Oh how the mighty fall.
I think I'd be working my way up the chain at Dinan. Were I the head hancho, I'd want to know that our customers were being told that we shipped funky stuff and now hurry up and wait until maybe we get around to fixing it.
Please keep us posted.

under holley control now so who knows what will end up happening there
Well ... it was good for about 300 miles and since then, it has been throwing CELs like a Christmas tree. Codes have been P12A5 or P12A8 (both pressure sensor faults) and one time both. Driveability and performance is fine and I love the extra power. Sometimes, they self-clear and at other times I have to clear them myself. Dinan told me that they are aware of the problem and are working on a firmware upgrade, but do not have an expected release date. As for taking it back, they said there's nothing else they can do until the upgrade arrives as I have the latest version. A bit frustrating ... enough so that I am considering removing it until the new version is available.
When I decided to get a tune between DINAN and NM Engineering, I went with DINAN because of the brand name and my previous experiences with their products. I read in some BMW forums that ever since APR purchased DINAN the quality has not been the same which I find odd because I had APR products on my Audi and never had any issues at all and thought the quality of their products was great. Now I'm regretting it and after reading some of the posts on this thread and it does seem DINAN is aware of this problem but choosing not to do anything about it. At this point I probably will take the refund because I do plan on selling this car after my GP3 comes.
well I just purchased an Elite off of the market place. I currently have an NM. I have not had an issue with my NM in 30k. I hope the Elite is as reliable. I will be selling the NM if the Elite is better if not I will sell the Elite.

Cel’s no Cel’s, updates, 😩 I want to purchase an elite for my 19 S as it is way underpowered but can I assume Dinan has this under control now? Seems people have been still having issues?
PS anyone know of a used elite for sale?

Noted elsewhere, but for convenience...
2018 JCW, Dinan Elite installed at 26k miles.
Dyno'd at 34k miles using Mustang Dynamometer -- wHP 255 @ 5300, wTQ 286 @ 3350 - thanks Bren Tuning for the dyno access
Threw two codes 11B213 and 119002 at 43k miles -- my dealer (who did the initial install) put the bypass in place and determined that the Mini side of things was fine. The Dinan was replaced within 24 hours.
No troubles since - it's been 12 autocross events and 14k miles.
So I would recommend the product, and the service based on my own experience.
Cheers,
Charlie

so then the tuner doesn’t work after you plug this in? If so why have the tuner still connected?
The bypass plug is a diagnostic component which hides the Dinan Elite from the car entirely, allowing all OEM diagnostics to be run. It is used to determine whether a fault arises from the Mini, or from the Dinan module.
Damned handy.

Charlie
So I like mine so far. Not night and day compared to the NM Power, but does seem to pull much better through the RPM's as mentioned before. So I also have a sprint booster. The combo of those two devices, makes this car crazy fun to drive.
You say not night and day. But shouldn't 40+ hp & Torque be almost that in this mini? Can you embellish on the NM?
well by night and day I did not go from 6 seconds in zero to 60 to 4.5 seconds. The NM was very good at giving you the turbo boost in the lower RPM range, but you notice that once the boost is there the power starts to normalize at higher RPM"s. This is where the Elite does a better job of maintaining the power all the way up through the RPM Range. You can feel the care "pull" all the way to red line. You did not get that with the NM. The NM is a very good product and for the money it give you a pretty good performance boost.
Ok thank you. I’m excited about the Elite because the S is underpowered and I am looking for a little more pull and fun! Maybe I’ll add the pedal commander also but I don’t want the accelerator to be jumpy.
I decided to perform a complete reinstall to make sure there were no installation issues. So far no codes ... fingers crossed.
I do like the improved power delivery and smoothness. Just hope this fixes the issues.
