N14 vs N18 JCW Turbo - any differences?

Hi all,

Are there any major differences between the Turbo’s on the N14 and N18 fJCW?

From what I understand the turbine and compressor wheels are the same size on both? But there are multiple part numbers so assume there must be some minor differences?

Cheers.

The turbos can we swapped from N14 to N18 and N18 to N14. The N18 has an extra hole on the compressor side to support a coolant line. You won’t have any issues using either turbo.

There is an extended warranty on the turbo for N18 engines than can go up to 10 years/120000 miles. Check with your dealer.

Your dealer will tell you from the VIN number. I have a very noisy waste gate at cold start and this is why I asked the question about the turbo.

I know it will eventually fail but I am in peace of mind since they confirmed I am covered from my VIN ID.

I don’t think JCW was included in the campaign. Only N18 S

Read carefully what I wrote ........ check with your dealer and VIN and you will know if it applies or not.

I did my homework and they told me It is covered for mine by the extended warranty. Maybe the bigger JCW turbo is more prone to failure than the S models. Just speculation here saying that but at least its safe to know before being ripped off by a repair shop that would eventually charge more than $3K-$4K to fix it.
