N14 JCW turbo to N18 Cooper S

Title says it all. As far as I can find, the N14 JCW turbo should fit without issues. Not sure about turbo inlet pipe though. Did anyone do this? Any feedback?

I have an n14 so not sure about the n18 pipe but I had a Jcw turbo and could not for the life of me get the oem inlet to fit. I tried and tried believe me. I ended up ordering a Jcw inlet after I broke the original

I am aware of that issue. On an N14 engine, the turbo inlet is different between S and JCW. S inlet is smaller I believe. Came up to that talk when someone was trying to fit AEM intake.

The actual question is the N14 JCW turbo on N18 S though. Still thanks for the input.

The inlet for the JCW turbo is larger than the S turbo. When I upgraded from the N18 S to the N18 JCW turbo I also bought the JCW inlet pipe. Sold the old one and made some money back.

I also debated on going with the N14 JCW turbo since it was much cheaper but in the end I decided to spend the extra dough and choose the N18 JCW turbo.

I too could not find a definitive answer but I do believe that it will bolt on with no issues. Also, I could not find (didn't look really hard) the specs for each to compare to see which one flows better.

Why are you contemplating going with the N14 JCW turbo?

Cerenkov, thanks for the info. I looked everywhere on turbo differences but couldn't find anything. I live in Istanbul and I basically have two (economical) upgrade possibilities:

- a used JMTC 42mm someone bought (in istanbul), used in his CM and selling, for $900. Considering new ones are 1400, I think it's a bit of a steep price and a little more than what I'd pay for used.

- a new N14 JCW for $400-450.

Couldn't find a new N18 JCW turbo for less than $1400 and used for less than $800.

I'm aiming to go step by step and just get a new turbo first, no tune and let it work with existing oem down pipe and tune. Later, depending if I'll keep the car or not and if I want more power or not, get a catless dp, intercooler and a conservative tune. I could do this all with stock turbo but I don't want to overwork it. I'm guessing better upper rev band flow of the larger turbo w/o a tune will be more than enough for congested Istanbul traffic.

Without a tune you'll still get a nice bump in HP, I've read somewhere between 20-30.
