N18 Turbo vs. N14 Turbo

I am looking to buy a new or used turbo for a 2013 MCS and was wondering if the turbo from the 2007-2012 models are the same?

I found some on ebay that look the exact same, but they say they are for 2007-10 model years only.

Should I go ahead and buy one off ebay? Will it fit my 2013 MCS?

Just curious. Why do you need a replacement turbo for a 2013?
Try Real OEM for compatability btw.

I bought a 2013 MCS wrecked on ebay (it is still posted on there if you want to look at it. It is white). After I put down a non-refundable deposit (dumb on my part), I realized in the picture of the engine bay there were a bunch of parts missing, including the turbo. Now I am sorta stuck with the car and will have to find parts cheap to make the repairs. I want to be able to buy an older model turbo because it is a lot less than the $1400 the dealer wants.

Is it possible that they are different part numbers but still fit both models? This ebay posting is for a 2007 turbo that says it will fit models through 2012, which is two years into the N18 style.

N14 engine ran into 2012 with the JCW engine. The N18 came late into 2011. SO that is IMO why they say it will fit a 2012.

Did not know that! Thanks for the insight. I am brand new to the mini brand. Any others out there, feel free to chime in whether N14 turbo can be outfitted on N18 engine!

Nope. Part numbers tell the story. Bram is correct as usual. I have a 2013 JCW, and it's the first year for the N18 in it.
Bram's the man, if he can't steer you, nobody can :P

+1
The mini brand/cars have tons of small details let me this....can make it tough yo pick out the items you need from a list...
Mini tended to do changes in a soft/rolling kind of way, with old and newer parts used on different cars after a change.... Makes buying parts difficult if you don't know the history of the cars/brands....
There are tons of little bits of info...the most important thing to know is the PRODUCTION DATE of your car....this determine what parts YOUR CAR GOT, AND WHAT FITS.
Realoem.com is a very useful site....so you can plug in your car...and compare the part number of an item vs a part from a second car...and see if they match.

So, I thought I had the N18 in my 2011 clubbie S. You're saying I may not?

If it is a late model 2011 you do. Check your door jamb for the production date. I believe if it is after 8/2011 then you have a N18.

Pop the hood and look at the valve cover. Is is smooth with a filler cap or does it have what looks like four tubes going into it?

Depends on if you want to tune, etc....
Even within BOTH motors there were revisions...to things like the pcv arrangement in the valve covers to try to reduce carbon issues (both are direct injected)....
Other items.....can even be in common.....the motors are similar, but the n18 has variable valve timing.....
Just know, different mini motors have different issues...gen1 or gen2....we can only hope they get it better with the BMW BUILT AND DESIGNED motor that will be in the next gen3 can s at some point.
