An interesting question I would like answered is what specifically is different regarding the DME load target logic between the two engines. Over at the N18 tuning thread Terry@BMS said he plugged up an N14 car and it operated in a very different way from the N18 car that the JB+ is designed for.

I had originally hoped that the JB+ tuner would be a no brainier to adapt for the N14. Sadly it does not look like this will be the case.

Wrong. The N18's came on the MCS from the beginning of the 2011 Model Cycle. Mine was made in 2010 at the end of August and it has the N18 engine.

If you have a JCW model year upto early 2012 you have a N14 engine. The MCS came with N18 in 2011 model year.

Exactly right. And by JCW he means factory jcw...not the jcw KIT.

Yes, I know, but the OP has an MCS, and the poster who said he had an 11 MCS clubman, was told he had an N14 according to your post. The whole thing was about an MCS not JCW

This is the post that I was referencing to about the MCS's having the N18 from the beginning of MY2011, it wasn't incorporated late in the 2011 production.

Yes, I know he means the JCW model. Obviously a kit wouldn't constitute a different engine. The JCW Kit is pointless anyway. I don't think anyone thinks the JCW kit makes their car a JCW.

Your post says that the JCW had the N14 thru 2012, then switched to the N18, but in a further post to a guy with an 11 MCS, you said the late 2011's were equipped with the N18. Basically, you were saying that any MCS before late 2011 was an N14 powered car.

From what I read

N18: JCW 2013+, S 2011+

Yes, ALL MY2011 S models have the N18, not just late '11's.

MY2011 production began in mid-2010. His post to the guy with the clubman is incorrect, in that the N18 was being used over a year before 8/2011 like he said.

The MCS turbo on the N14 and N18 should be the same. Borg Warner have a few different numbers for the same turbo.

I dunno, realoem.com has different part numbers for them. Not sure actual manufacturer part numbers.

Can't someone just call a dealer parts dept. and get the real skinny? That's how we did it in the old days lol

The manifolds fit all the turbos. There was a stock MCS manifold, JCW Stage 1 manifold and Factory JCW manifold and all fit the stock and JCW turbos.

Yes they should fit all, but there was a revision to the manifold at sometime, but it shouldn't change the turbo fitment.

jeesh was getting a migraine reading all this....Braminator was correct in what he previously stated.

A factory JCW R55/56 and R55/566N produced up until early 2012 has the N14B engine. So if you have a 2011 MCS JCW it has the N14B. If you have a 2011 MCS it has the N18B.

Additionally, from what I have read, the turbo from an N18 engine has significant design differences making it the better of the two ( earlier R56 vs. newer ) the newer one produces boost much faster with less friction/heat due to different type of internal bearings ( needle vs. ball bearing style ) and scroll fin angle. I'll admit, I am more of a Supercharger Officiando but this is my understanding of the two Turbo designs.
