Summer/Sport/Racing Rubber

I have the stock tires on my car still. Has anyone put a racing tire, or a much sticker tire on there car yet? On my motorcycles I run race tires for the front tire and then a street legal race tire on the back and it makes a world of difference.

I'm curious if there is much of a increase in 0-60 times with the stickier tires. I know my added hp doesn't do me much good on 0-60 because of getting hp to the ground.

Which tire exactly [model, size] do you have one there now? There are several options from the factory.

The topic in general is a big can of worms. It really comes down to; budget, weather, roads or tracks being driven on, suspension setup, and relative expectations.

You mention 0-60, so my first hunch is you're looking for straightline grip, like an M/T ET Drag slick, something where you'd trailer the car to the drag strip. However I'm thinking you're not looking to go that hardcore, and really meant an ultra high or extreme performance summer DOT tire. If you still want to take corners, look into an extreme summer like the Bridgestone RE-71R, Dunlop Z2 Star Spec, or BFG Rival-S. You give up fuel economy, cold grip, wet grip, and tread life to get better grip in warm and dry pavement.

I recommend spending some time on Tire Rack's website and familiarize yourself with the options available in either your stock tire size or rational equivalent.

Quite simply, this is the tire you want: Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R in 205/45-17

I love the Direzza ZII's and they're on special close out. I run them as my daily tire, but have tracked with them as well. I'm on my 2nd year with them and will probably need to get new tires soon, but they stick so well. Do pretty good in the rain too, no real issues. Check them out, some good reviews and info on them at that link.

Ah! 1 tire might not really make a difference. Well, either way he might be able to use discount tire or another distributor for them.

I care about the corning a lot more than the straight line, but have noticed guys with racing slicks at autocross events seems to hookup a lot better coming out of corners and at the starting line. I was thinking about buying a second set of wheels and keeping all seasons on stock wheels and putting summer tires on the other wheels. We never really get winter weather in NC but I would still swap them out for Nov-March etc.

The 0-60 times of our cars aren't that great because of wheel spin. Has anyone put straight racing slicks on there car, and how much of a difference does it make?

Slicks are great for grip, but if you're talking about true racing slicks I wouldn't recommend running a straight up racing slick as a daily tire. They wouldn't last very long, they depend more on an optimal temperature, and if it does get wet it might be a little scary to drive on them. I believe most of them are illegal to run on the street as well. I'd recommend what Ryephile suggested, the Direzza's, maybe Nitto NT05's or Hankook RS3's. You can still get pretty good grip with a performance street tire. I've run both the Direzza's and NT05's as a street and track application. I've also run slicks, but only as a track tire, not daily. Just my input though. Maybe some of the MINI autox/track guys/gals can jump in and give you some input on other applicable street tires to look into as well.

Ran Yokohama 215/45/17 Ad08r as a Uk summer tyre on my r53 with 250 whp,
Good dual use for street and a little bit of track
Factory LSD was a big help also

Good corner speed, no noise, no drama
