JCW a JCW Seat, anybody with seat time?
Ok here's the latest. Mini has apparently been bombarded with requests to retrofit minis of all types with the recaros. No final word yet, but it might end up being something that the dealer will install w some engineering work arounds for airbag issues. I do know that the Recaro won't sell me the OEM recaros directly no matter what I am willing to pay. So the purchase has to come thru a dealer if you want to keep your mini in OEM spec. Of course, you can always order second hand and hope for the best- not my pref. My goal is to create a mini that rival evil mini. I've got about 10 extra in it now and I think I have another 15 or so to finish it off. The end result will be the "Limesicle" bc of the gt3rs green paint job. I am so excited.
$$$ yikes!

Can I ask how tall are you? How do they compare to sport seats? Are they adjustable as the stock seats?
Another option that may be available shortly is the new Recaros that they're going to start putting in factory MINIs this month. I can't say for sure, but they MIGHT be easier to retrofit since they're designed for US MINIs in the first place.

Sorry, I cannot compare to the stock seats as I had the dealer fit the JCW before before taking delivery of the car.
Best seats in the house.... well worth the money.

and by special design....

Rear JCW seats...

They look great! But how did you go about with the airbag lights and passenger weight sensor issue?
For me, yes and no....
They have airbags and heat. They do not have pass. sensors.
You have to take the factory pass. seat apart and install the pads from the old seats into the new seats.
Now, since they're going to be offered in the US, they may indeed come with pass. sensors but when I bought them, that was not an option.

Are you sure THESE are going to be offered? The Recaros on the configurator look DRASTICALLY different, and as they are for the US market are probably wider. A perfect example of BMW doing this same thing is the E9X M3. The ROW seats are noticeably narrower and, at least for me (5'9" 165lbs), FAR more comfortable. I have a feeling that the MINI Recaros for NA will be the same. Either way, I'm going with the Euro versions. I KNOW they are what I want and if I have to take a sensor out of the passenger's seat to make the new ones work, so be it. :D
I love the JCW Recaros, but the price is insane. Because of that I'm leaning towards one of these:

Still not cheap but much cheaper than the Recaros anyway.

I have a pair of the european JCW Sparco in my R53 and a pair of the european JCW Recaro in my R56. I honestly think that the Recaros are a lot more comfortable for the streets and the Sparco 1st gen JCW seats are more supportive and bolstered. Of course if you're going to be tracking the car with a cage a fixed back would be the most ideal choice. As for coding on my R53 I used resistors and bought a passenger seat and took the weight mat out. On my R56 I had the coding sent from Europe to properly code the car so it was as if it came from the factory that way.
Good luck! The seats are well worth it and its world's better than the stock and the US-spec Recaro. If at all just pickup some Recarco CS, it's the same minus the logo and airbag.

I didn't put Recaros in my JCW Coupe as I couldn't justify buying them sight unseen at that cost. One of the Austin Cooper Car Club members had a new GP at the club drive yesterday and I had a chance to sit in them, and again at the Austin MINI dealership this AM (they had another GP on the floor).
Now I really wish I had gotten them! I did check with the parts and service department at the dealer. $230 to install, and about $1800 each for the seats (including brackets). These are the same seats going in the GP. Include heated seats and air bag.
So about $4k. It's going on the wish list and we will see if it ever peculates up to the top.

Can you get me the number of the Austin dealer and perhaps a contact person cause I want those seats and my parts guy days I need to purchase each piece separately and it will cost more than 3000 for just one seat. That is no even both freakin seats. I need your guy to hook me up. Thanks
